Clinton: ‘Be careful what you wish for, Rush’ By Klaus Marre Posted: 03/05/08 09:30 AM [ET]

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), buoyed by important victories in the Democratic primaries in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, on Wednesday offered some words of warning to conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, who had urged Republicans to vote for her as the presumptively easier Democrat to beat.

“Be careful what you wish for, Rush,” Clinton said on Fox News.

For the second time during this campaign season, the former first lady survived what many viewed as a potential knockout punch from frontrunning Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.). While Obama maintains a significant delegate lead, he was unable to seal the nominations Tuesday night, having to concede another two populous states to Clinton.

“By getting the most delegates, by having won twice as many states, by having a lead in the popular vote we feel as if we are on pace to get the nomination,” Obama said Wednesday morning in an appearance on the same network. “And it will take a little longer than would be true if we weren’t running against a Clinton, but we’re still going to end up getting it.”

However, instead of being able to focus on Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the newly crowned Republican nominee, Obama must now continue to expend his considerable resources on the Democratic primary.

The Clinton campaign is seeking to use the breathing room the former first lady was given in polling places in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island to map out its “path to the presidency,” as a memo from strategists Harold Ickes and Mark Penn was labeled.

In the document, the Clinton team says it is “time for a second look” on the race and the candidates and argued that the “momentum has swung

"One important note is that Obama is heavily favored in Mississippi and NC, which have a total of 148 pledged delegates at stake or almost one third of the remaining outstanding. So if Obama pads his delegate count in these two states, Hillary would have to win the remaining states by even larger margins than 59%. A very tall order."

He's also going to take Pa, Ky, In -- try that Forbes calculator, I used a 40-60 super split to Hillary and O still gets over the top for a first-ballot win (barely) sweeping the next six by any margin.

"In the meantime, this has given both Rat candidates weeks and weeks of more free publicity and domination of the MSM and so on."

Time will tell if you're right or not. I think you're wrong.

The media is already in bed with the rats, but the publicity generated is only going to hurt them. There will always be one of the "injured" factions that's pissed off.

Nothing really happened Tuesday to change the delegate count that much. It just allowed Hillary to claim victory in the "must win" states.

We're now guaranteed that the rats will be fighting right up to and through the convention.

How is this POSSIBLY a bad thing for us?

FWIW: This idea of voting for Hillary is unsound. I understand what Rush is trying to do...But...Everyone forgets the media will be on Hillary’s side after she wins the nomination.

McCain will be at a severe disadvantage once that starts.

That was why I think it was better to have Obama as the democratic candidate, as when the media sides with him he will be more difficult to sell against McCain.

Hillary should have been taken out first!

"She was going to win Ohio, Texas, and Rhode Island, GOP crossovers or not. That is the fact you're missing in your desire to bash Rush."

Bogus. She's going to come out +1D in Texas, thanks to mahalunacy. Obama would have won Texas and put her away without Rusty's "let's play games so I can win" moneystrosity.

PA is the biggest remaining state and she was the favorite there even before her new momentum. I think Obama has peaked. Republicans who voted for Hillary with the idea she was easier to be beat have shot the GOP in the foot. Obama is very vulnerable in the general election.

“Without Rush’s little stunt then many more Repubs would have voted for Obama. To think that Rush did not have an effect is ridiculous”

That may well be true. Moreover, I was listening to Limbaugh this aftertoon, and he was going on about how he wants Obama and Shrillary to wear each other out, so whoever wins the primary will be easier to beat in the general. Here is what I don’t understand (or maybe I do). Rush cannot stand John McCain. Basically he doesn’t think McCain has a conservative bone in his old body. Thus, why does Rush want someone he can’t abide to win the 2008 general election? Here is my theory. Rush fancies himself a major player in the GOP. If he had the courage to do what Ann Coulter did and say, in effect, “Eff John McCain. I’m campaigning for Hillary”, then his days as a GOP player would be over. No more A-list GOP functions to attend. No more Xmas cards from Dubya and Haley Barbour. Thus, due to his own personal vanity, Rush is willing to sell-out his conservative convictions, and work for a McCain victory. Not nice.

You’ve made some profound points, and you have a keen understanding of Limbaugh’s character (for lack of a better word). Either you are right (and I did make a similar point on some other thread about Hillary being money in the bank for Rush), or I’m right (Rush actually thinks Obama and Cankles will wear each other out, so McLame wins, and Rush is a good GOP team playa). It sux either way.

No one will care about the “fighting.” It’s simply business as usual in politics.

The wins on Tuesday will allow the Witch to claim she is the only one who can win the big states. This will increase her ability to hang onto and bully the superdelegates and party elites.

Moreover, the wins on Tuesday will allow the Witch to increase the pressure for a do-over in Florida and Michigan. More free press for her and likely wins.

So how is this bad for us?

First, these wins directly facilitate the Witch getting the nomination, either outright (through the re-dos) or behind the scenes (by giving her ways to pressure the supers).

Secondly, since the nomination even so will remain very close, if Hildy were to get the nomination, she would be forced to select Obama as her VP anyway. And he would likely accept.

So we end up with BOTH these Rats instead of one. That’s bad.

Yep. They’ll (remember, it’s always plural with the Clintons) shove that Fairness Doctrine so far up his fat ass, it’ll knock the cigar out of his mouth.

She'll be easier to beat than Obama. Better than half the country hates her already.

Even with both of them on the ticket, we can take them. Neither have any accomplishments. I don't think it's a slam dunk by any means, but I really don't see McCain losing to them unless he REALLY screws up.

If they get fighting dirty soon enough, that dual ticket won't happen.

My Sister hadn’t voted for decades...but she registered and voted for Hillary yesterday. So did my Niece, who just turned 18 last year and registered...to vote for Hillary. They both attended a speech/rally of hers in a Toledo school gym a while back...My ex-Sister-In-Law hadn’t voted for decades...was always unpolitical...I saw her being interviewed on local news last week....working the phones for Hillary..as a volunteer forher campaign.

Keep laughing, all of you who crossed over to vote for her. I hope you can still laugh in November. The “vagina vote” is there...it’s real... and if the Clintons get the nomination....

Yep, The fat fool has been totally WRONG on everything the Clintons have done since they left the WH. Believe he said she’d never run for president, too.

They will not run together, as I’ve said for months, because he doesn’t need her-he’s young enough to run again someday. But that doesn’t matter-he’ll tell blacks and youth that supported him to ‘heal the wounds’ and vote for her, and they’ll all come together. I’ve seen the dem party do it time after time.

Possibly the first honest words she has ever uttered!
Not the first. The first would be “isn’t she beautiful Webb?”

Do you really think Chelsea was a beautiful baby?

I’ve joked about him a few times, but never got severe. Huckabee and Romney were the two I gave my vitriol to. I thank God they’re out. And I hope to God McCain doesn’t pick Romney as VP, or I vote third party. The Huckster is out of the question, he’s gone from the picture.

Negative ratings don't translate into a loss unless they get votes for the other side. In our case, we have a weak alternative that the media will cast as no alternative (they will run Hillary in the center and McCain as too liberal for conservatives). The diehard Hillaryites will get out their vote but we'll be lucky to get half of ours.
