Clinton: ‘Be careful what you wish for, Rush’ By Klaus Marre Posted: 03/05/08 09:30 AM [ET]

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), buoyed by important victories in the Democratic primaries in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, on Wednesday offered some words of warning to conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, who had urged Republicans to vote for her as the presumptively easier Democrat to beat.

“Be careful what you wish for, Rush,” Clinton said on Fox News.

For the second time during this campaign season, the former first lady survived what many viewed as a potential knockout punch from frontrunning Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.). While Obama maintains a significant delegate lead, he was unable to seal the nominations Tuesday night, having to concede another two populous states to Clinton.

“By getting the most delegates, by having won twice as many states, by having a lead in the popular vote we feel as if we are on pace to get the nomination,” Obama said Wednesday morning in an appearance on the same network. “And it will take a little longer than would be true if we weren’t running against a Clinton, but we’re still going to end up getting it.”

However, instead of being able to focus on Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the newly crowned Republican nominee, Obama must now continue to expend his considerable resources on the Democratic primary.

The Clinton campaign is seeking to use the breathing room the former first lady was given in polling places in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island to map out its “path to the presidency,” as a memo from strategists Harold Ickes and Mark Penn was labeled.

In the document, the Clinton team says it is “time for a second look” on the race and the candidates and argued that the “momentum has swung

If Hildy gets the nomination, she selects Obama as her VP.

There is no escaping them BOTH now. That’s all that was accomplished by helping Hildy stay in the race.

At least we could have been rid of her.

No way...geographically the ticket is weak. The VP needs to deliver a big state. The Dems want to win. They will bury Clinton in the end. They have to. Hillary’s voters will vote for Barak-he won the popular vote and pledged delegates. Barak’s supporters would be incensed because of the overturning voter’s will aspect. No Democrat can not win without the black vote. Hillary has to go period. She may get to be the Senate leader or something like that.

I'll offer a different perspective. The prolonged contest may actually help the Dems. It keeps the focus and media attention on both candidates. Free exposure. It also draws out more participants in the remaining states. Pumps them up, get's them primed for turning out again in the general, and solidifies there contempt for the Republican. A deal is going to be worked out that unites the party. There will continue to be plenty of money available. All this just puts more fuel in their tank. Rush blew it.

Bears repeating.

Remember Bubba didn't wrap up the nomination until the end of July, either, and that helped rather than hurt the Rats in the general. Just as you described above.

Yep. Rush really blew it.

I hope Hillary and Obama rip each others figurative throats out in the upcoming weeks in an effort to win.

There will be those who, no matter how it is phrased, will not vote for even an Hillary/Obama ticket if they see Hillary shrewdly taking the nomination from Obama...and much, much more so if it gets so bad that she out and out steals it from him and he refuses to be on said ticket.

We shall see.

This was childish and stupid and unbelievably risky. And I also object to the idea that one's vote is something to game.

Rush made the mistake of picking on McCain several months ago when it looked like his campaign was all but over. To make matters worse, he also started going after Huckabee. I guess no one told Rush that they would be the only two Republicans left in March. Ever since he has been trying everything he can to find a way out of the pickle he got himself into. Yesterday's rally for Hillary was rock bottom. In about 15 minutes, we can all listen to his apology...Yeah, like that's going to happen.

“With the mud that is set to fly, it’s better not to have coverage. He’ll be able to appear presidential and above the fray.”

McCain may have a good strategy by going the ‘high road’. I know people are mad at him for scolding Cunningham but a lot of people are going to be sick of the mud slinging. Some Dems and independents may turn to McCain because he refuses to go negative.

If every thing goes the way Rush thinks it will, Obama and Hillary will do the dirty work.

Zero, because Obama will be the Witch’s VP and his voters will still go out to vote for him.

That’s easy. As Hildy already said this morning, she’d select Obama as her VP.

I predict the Dems will not allow the supers to overturn the primary vote.

Very possible but we shall see. The Clintons still hold a massive control over the democrat establishment i.e. the super delegates.

This was too close in Texas to gamble with . They played with fire and got burned. The result is we’ll get a Hillary/Obama ticket, 8 years of Hillary followed by 8 years of Obama. Thank Rush and Levin for nothing.

Yep.

Do you deny that Hildy was dead and now she lives?

ANY vote for the Witch that facilitated this resurrection facilitated this resurrection. Regardless that someone else may have gotten more Republican votes, clearly many Republicans did vote for Hildy based on the Rush Doctrine.

There is no escaping them BOTH now. That’s all that was accomplished by helping Hildy stay in the race.

Instead of divide and conquer, Rush and those who heeded his flawed call will succeed in uniting the party around the dream team, and enabling a far wider and deeper Democrat victory than otherwise attainable. The Mother of all Backfires.

She said that because she is losing. Of course she is willing to select Obama if it allows her to win...because she can only win through the efforts of others. She can not beat Obama in elected delegates. If her name wasn’t Clinton, she’d already be out.
