Could Obama Lose One Quarter of Hillary's Supporters in a General Election? YES

BARACK OBAMA, HILLARY CLINTON, JOHN MCCAIN

Could Obama Lose One Quarter of Hillary's Supporters in a General Election?

Daniel Larison notes that in the latest Pew poll, "Obamacans" - those Republicans who are supporting Obama — are outnumbered two-to-one by what we would have to call "McCainocrats."

A quarter of Democrats (25%) who back Clinton for the nomination say they would favor McCain in a general election test against Obama. The "defection" rate among Obama's supporters if Clinton wins the nomination is far lower; just 10% say they would vote for McCain in November, while 86% say they would back Clinton.

Meanwhile, Rush and some Freepers are trying to keep her IN the race because they think Obama is harder to beat.

Brilliant, guys.

So much for the “Obama would be harder to beat in November” theory that Rush has been pushing.

Fox had a bunch of Democrats in a room the other day. They asked the question and it seemed about 25% said they would consider McCain.

I sure wish we had someone like Mitt. I think he would eat Hillary and Obama for breakfast.

Hardly, why anyone would even begin to take seriously what pollsters say about elections 8 months away is beyond me.

Well we will never know who will be harder to beat because both scenarios (McCain vs. Obama and in an alternate universe McCain vs. Clinton) can’t play out. Interesting to debate though.

Has nothing to do with who is harder to beat ~ the objective is to FORCE the Democrats to select their candidate at the convention.

Violence can be expected.

I don’t think Rush has been pushing for Hillary because she’s easier to beat than Obama. I believe he’s stated that he wants Hillary as a factor in the Democratic convention so that the Democratic party is split.
I agree with this notion (even if I’m incorrect about what Rush has expressed). The longer she and Obama battle it out the more funds they expend and hopefully the more spiteful their supporters get towards each other.

Exactly. Who would have thought 8 months ago we would be sitting here with McCain as our nominee and possibly Obama on the other side. A whole world of poop can happen in 8 months.

That's actually a valid point, but it only underscores my objection to this whole "vote for Hillary" stunt. Too many people are trying to throw the nomination to her because they believe she is easier to beat. But, as you note, it's too early to tell.

Hillary and Obama are equal opponents for McCain. Different strengths and weaknesses but McCain can beat either

Note ths spin in this story. Hillary! supporters that will switch parties are said to be in favor of McCain, and NOT portrayed as refusing to vote for a Black to be President.

Nope, no bias here....

Woo hoo—I just hope they keep it at the convention and it doesn’t spill out into Aurora where I am.

I posted last night. In Frank Luntz’ focus group - Hillary’s supporters, about one quarter, did say on camera they would consider voting for McCain due to his SERVICE to the Country and EXPERIENCE - two values that Hildabeast has been trumpeting.

Hillary’s man-haters will say or do anything to win. They’ll do the same against McCain, too.

...probably not. Aurora is too dangerous. The west side of town, around Federal, is much safer these days. ;-)
