Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 03/03/2008 Pelosi Statement on Oil Prices Reaching a World Record High

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today as the price of oil reached a world record high of $103.95 per barrel, higher now than in 1980, when adjusted for inflation:

“Americans are now paying the price for years of a failed energy policy that has resulted in record energy costs, a dangerous dependence on foreign oil, and the rising threat of global warming. The price of a barrel of oil is now four times higher than it was when President Bush took office and more expensive than in 1980.

“The New Direction Congress has begun to break with the failed energy policy of the past by enacting the first increase in fuel economy standards in 32 years, dramatically boosting efficiency standards for buildings, lighting, and appliances, and investing in homegrown biofuels. This year, we again seek to repeal billions of dollars in unnecessary subsidies given to Big Oil at a time of record profits and invest these savings in clean, renewable energy initiatives that will create good-paying green jobs. I am hopeful that the Senate Republicans and the President will work with us to pass this critical legislation to save more than 100,000 jobs in the renewable energy sector, and is vital to creating hundreds of thousands more.

“America needs a clean and sharp break from Bush Administration energy policies that are straining families’ budgets and threatening our planet’s future. The New Direction Congress is providing forward-looking leadership that will fuel America’s energy future, save Americans’ money, create good jobs, improve our national security, and preserve our planet for our children.”

Thank you Do Nothing Nancy for blocking drilling offshore and in ANWR, as well as blocking any new refineries, because you and the RAT party are owned lock, stock and barrel by a bunch of tree hugging environazis.

I don’t suppose she bothered to mention a four year democrat filibuster of the 2005 energy bill.

This woman is a blooming idiot. There's not one word about what we really need is to be producing and refining our own oil whether it's from ANWR or off shore. We also need to be building nuclear power plants and burning clean coal.

The fact is that it has been Democrats and their radical environmentalist wacko friends who have prevented this from happening.

These energy prices can be laid right at the feet of Democrats.

“Americans are now paying the price for years of a failed energy policy that has resulted in record energy costs,”

Agreed on that portion.

Listening to enviro-extremists instead of making sound energy policy has put us where we are.

God forbid we drill for more oil here at home. Or build a few more refinerys or nuclear plants!

What a load of crap. Sadly, many in this country will hear or read this and soak it in as truth. The truth is that the Dem's’s have blocked all good energy proposals to get us off the foreign oil nipple. Pilosi is full of lies. Unchecked lies I might add.

Well Nancy...I suppose then you are ecstatic about the relief that you’re House’s bill to start taxing oil profits to the hilt will provide, while at the same time as giving nice little tax breaks to Communist state run oil companies.

save more than 100,000 jobs in the renewable energy sector

Not one mention about correcting oil prices because that would lead her
and lackeys to ultimately admit ANWAR!

Gee! and the Democrat party is the reason the United States is not energy independent.

They are against Coal Production and Use,They are against oil drilling in and around the CONUS,Not to forget Alaska. They are also against Nuclear Power.

All they care about is conservation.Conservation is fine but it does not create a strong national economy.

Thanks Nancy you Idiot.

"Americans are now paying the price for years of a failed DEMOCRAT energy policy..."

Fixed it. I'm in the oil & gas industry and it is now at the stage of impossible for me to listen to, or read, anything from a Democrats mouth about energy prices.

The ANWR was seismic surveyed back in the 1980s and estimated at 10-16 billion barrels of crude oil. With todays advances in seismic technology the ANWR could probably be shown to have 5 times that amount. Not to mention the other OFF LIMITS areas of America.

We have 5 times, or more, oil the Hugo Frikin' Chavez! DEMOCRATS ARE MORONS!

The latest manifestation of the ghost of FDR and the New Deal, I’d suspect.

These idiots don’t have a clue. I fear for the future of the country if these fools win the WH in November.
