GOP Primary: Muckster vs Huckster | Confirm Duncan Hunter on Ballot in Texas, RI. Fred OH. Huck VT
March 3, 2008 | Golden Gate

Posted on 03/03/2008 3:45:43 PM PST by Golden Gate

There are conservatives who are describing this GOP Primary Election of 2008 as "the worst ever".
Later we can talk about what went wrong.   But for the March 4th Primary states, they have a choice of:

John McC  vs.  Mike Huckabee         (Hey, it rhymes!)

How many conservatives see it as   "Muckster  vs  Huckster" ?

Texas GOP Conservatives:   Do NOT waste your vote by voting for Democrats.
·And no one should be voting for `corruption personified'!·   GOP Conservatives, there is conservative work to be done in the Republican Primary!

Can someone please confirm that Duncan Hunter is on the ballot in  Texas and Rhode Island.

Can Democrats in Texas `cross over' and vote in the GOP Primary?   If so, Texas Conservative Democrats and Union members should `cross over' and Vote for conservative California Congressman Duncan Hunter!

Please confirm that  Fred Thompson  is on the ballot in  Ohio  (& TX).

Conservatives in  Vermont  should consider voting for Huck.

- - re: McC

He does NOT yet have the necessary delegate count that he needs to clinch the nomination. There is still time to derail this disaster already waiting to happen.

From an article:   "Reality is, only about 35 percent of Republicans support John McCain. The other 65 percent who voted against McCain can never be accurately accused of supporting McCain, only opposing the greater opposition.

But more than 35 percent will indeed vote for McCain come November. Not because they have some new found love for John McCain or his many shortcomings, but because...

>>Never forget McCain not only pushed the amnesty bill, he refused to allow exclusions for the worst of the lot.<<

Right. And posters are claiming that McCain is better on immigration than McCain, but while Hillary and Obama voted for amnesty last year, they were not pushing like McCain was. Maybe McCain has improved on immigration, but if so, he needs to make that clear.

And while McCain is more pro-life in the short run than the Dems, the effect of amnesty would be tens of millions of new Dem voters, which would allow leftist control of all 3 branches.

=> Re:   mtntop3 - #32;  & others...   (Wanting John McC as the nominee.. & just fer'get about the others..)

Very nice summary, but it could just as well have come from McC HQ.

...pipe dreams? The Democrats are masters in "pipe dreams".   But why is the GOP getting into "pipe dreams"?

John McCain is one of the GOP's biggest "pipe dreams" of Primary 2008.

I think that there is more to it, than just that the highly recommended conservative candidate `didn't do well in the primaries'.

Was conservative Rep. Duncan Hunter a minor leaguer, and did he make mistakes?   Did he run a pitiful campaign?   Or was he ignored and abandoned, and even betrayed by some of the major conservative radio / TV hosts?

One of the common themes is that it was the liberal media and the Democrats who picked the GOP's candidate.   (Rush says it was the NY tymes.)   Is that true and the full story?   Or, is that just the `cover story'?

I did Not follow the conservative media moment by moment.   I'm guess'in Duncan Hunter had some time on shows. But I have a distinct impression that there was an ~embargo~ / a silence about using the name Duncan Hunter on the air. At a vital time before Iowa / NH, I think the ~conservative~ `hosts' had their mind made up, it wasn't going to be Hunter. When the names of the GOP / conservative candidates were being listed, either they skipped Hunter's name; or when his name was mentioned, it was quickly stated / mumbled ... `good conservative' / but he can't win'.

If the conservative hosts had something against Hunter, they should have clearly stated "The (very) conservative California Congressman Duncan Hunter" - this is who he is and what he stands for, and summarized his voting record. If the conservative media hosts did not like Hunter, they should have clearly stated their observations and opinions. Ignoring the person and accomplishments of Duncan Hunter just before Iowa / NH, or just mumbling ~he can't win~, -that's betrayal, and Hunter deserved better than that.

Conservative media hosts ignoring / betraying a conservative candidate and then suddenly coming ALIVE for the McCain candidate who they said had betrayed conservatives over the years.

It is my impression that in the fall and winter when McCain made his comeback, that the Conservative reaction was ranging from indifference to *bitterness toward McCain*.   Why the sudden turn-around?   Election success?   Ignore and betray the loyal conservative candidates, and of course McC or Mitt was going to win.   Is McCain the GOP's best choice, or a confused and panicked compromise choice?

I'm a Dem, so it is your primary.   But looking forward to Nov, I'm very interested (so it's kinda ~our~ primary...)

And now it is Mar 4th, I don't necessarily insist that Duncan has to be the nominee.   But I do think conservatives, and the rest of the GOP should want to have the time to make the best decision at the convention.

McCain does NOT need final approval today,  or this spring.   If McCain is so good,   he can wait until the convention this summer.   Either he will age like fine wine, and everyone will embrace him at the convention with confidence. Or he will come apart and fizzle between now and then.   Let's see which it is,  before he gets the nomination.   (Not as a nominee) Let's give Candidate John McCain   SIX FULL MONTHS   to truly disappoint conservatives (~one~ more time / ~one~ for the road!).   In the heat of the summer, you don't want a convention arena full of GOP delegates suffering from buyer's remorse.

People will vote for who they want, but is McCain really the best one, and will he ~fly~ in November?

I said FR needed an Election / Campaign Central. THANKS to those who posted some of the technical / election info.

And thanks for all posts.

#46 = It’s too late for 2008...

It sounds like the Democrat’s delegates are not legally bound to vote for `their’ candidate on the first ballot at the convention.

What about the GOP? Are the GOP delegates legally committed to their candidate? it ain’t over till it’s over.

# 25 gives an answer about Ohio: GOP delegates are assigned to a candidate, but not legally required to vote for the candidate.

Bound delegates: McCain needs 52% of the remaining pledged delegates in order to cement a first ballot win. He is likely to be declared a winner long before it is guaranteed.

We stopped McCain ONCE from passing his CIF. We can do it again.

Here is Arkansas, Huckabee went to Mexico and solicited the Mexican Consulate to be headquartered in Little Rock, then rented the space to them for $1 per year..He made it easy for Illegals from Arkansas and the surrounding States to get their Matricular card.

Huckabee has a track record of embracing Illegals once they are here.

I'd rather deal with McCain than Huckabee.

Like you, I agreed with Hunter more than any other candidate. Last month, I ran for convention delegate, for Huckabee, in Illinois. If McCain wins enough delegates to win the nomination today, should Huckabee stay in the race, suspend his campaign, or quit? I hope that he would suspend his campaign, similar to Romney. If Huckabee does that, his delegates would attend the convention and vote for him, and he would make a convention speech.

If he did what you said......he is sure trying to counter those measures by signing Senator Sessions 15 point pledge against amnesty.....

He signed it.....

...He has Duncan (I will build the wall in 6 months) Hunter's endorsement...

..He has the endorsement of James Dobson.

I don't see McCain giving a flip what Evangelicals think...

..or care how many folks want that wall built...

..or signing any Session 15 point pledge.

IF he did what I said? He did!

I don't trust McCain either, Guen...you already know that about me. But he's going to be our nominee and Mike isn't.

I was surprised when Sheriff Joe showed his disgust that the exist polls with regard to illegal immigration importance ranked below 20% in importance among today's voters.

We're in trouble.

What does it matter anymore....

Huckabee has dropped out...you're happy, I know.

McCain is the chosen one, at least by the elitist powers that be.

We better brush up on our Spanish, cause McCain, Hillary, Obama ALL will give us amnesty.

The illegals are partying tonight....there is no one to oppose them.

May God have mercy.....I continue to hope for light at the end of this very long tunnel.

I'm disgusted with the Republican Party, I'm disgusted with the lot of them.

Guen, I am disgusted as well.

Yes, I am happy Huckabee was defeated. But I'm not gloating about it.

I don't like either of them!

Guen, I made myself sick fighting McCains CIR! OTOH, IF you can trust Huckabee signing a pledge that is contrary to the way he talked & acted as Governor, then could you trust McCain if he does the same thing?

C'mon, you know McCain thinks he's above having to sign some stinking pledge.

He doesn't give a rat's patootie what we peons think or care.....he doesn't need us.

He'll have amnesty in place so fast it will make our heads spin.
