I don’t think anyone else got it.

Could it be the “person of interest” was just bundled up for the cold???
I guess I haven’t seen the part where there was a gun spotted on that very person...
I would go read some more, but today is filled with many other harrowing tales and tragedies of other shootings around the country...

An earlier story I read stated that the masked man had a gun and had entered a dorm room of a student, then fled, IIRC.

Its amazing how many of theses type of events have been happening during this election cycle. Id better get my tin-foil hat on quick. Not a conspiracy but definitely historical facts to support your assertion. It seems that a lot of heinous acts occur during national election cycles. It's almost as if the psychos SENSE the disturbance made in their own reality by the posturing of pompous politicians pandering to the people.
This kind of thing would never have happened when I was a senior at the University of Alabama back in the late 1970s. Almost all of the air force and army ROTC cadets who were headed for a future in the combat arms had Alabama state CCW permits ($5 then from the Chief of Police in Tuscaloosa) and we'd already had the military training in the hardware and tactics. Any active shooter on that campus would've been shredded by the students in a race between the air force & army cadets and the BUBBAS goin' huntin' after class with scoped rifles in their pickups.
Cops? Clean up in building #4....It's MILLER time!

I'm sure your son is fine and the emergency is over. It's sad that this has to happen in that area but not unexpected. App state is home to some of the ummmm wackier student groups and their adult extensions. Something like 50 different nationalities and cultures represented on campus. Drawn by the incredible beauty of the area and it's wonderful climate. North Carolina is somewhat of a liberal state already, but Boone is a far more liberal region due to the school. We're going to retire in a few years and move to Asheville, because of it's excellent VA Hospital. Asheville's a liberal area too. Very "artsy" but it won't be too much of a change for us since we currently live in Miami, FL. Already liberal-land.

We were last up there for the final regular season football game. Though there are a lot of liberals (as with most colleges) it is an awesome school. As far as politics is concerned, I am quite comfortable with my son attending ASU as he has been well-grounded in conservative politics (thanks in part to my extremely liberal nutball of a mother-in-law, may she rest in peace). He has a history of taking on liberal teachers in high school and professors in college in serious political debate but he has a knack of doing it without offending his adversary. He's a realist, not a dreamer.
Boone may be a liberal town, but it will get worse before it gets better... His plan is to head to Chapel Hill upon graduation for his Master's. ;-)
