Tell him to keep his head down rather than peep out the window.
This will only escalate since an unarmed college campus and any other public building is like shooting fish in a pond.

Nobody has heard any gun shots.
Jeez... this is the same university where there was a shooting at the law school a few years ago.

Gunman on campus, buildings on lockdown

Appalachian State University is on lockdown following the siting of a masked gunman in the Hill Street area of campus.
University Police say the suspect is a six-foot white male wearing a black Pink Floyd T-shirt with a rainbow prism, a dark jacket, a black or blue ski mask and red and green tennis shoes.
The suspect is still at large as police are currently attempting to locate the man.
All night classes have been cancelled.
The Appalachian will continue with updates as they arrive.

His room is facing the action and if anything happens on that side of the building, they’ll know. The police are reminding them to stay away from the windows but, I gotta tell you, they are curious.
Incidently, he says that they just started a new warning system for students this morning. They received text message alerts. It is causing some of to think that it may have just been a test, but I told him that it was too late in the day for tests. Shortly after that, the local news here in Raleigh came on with the story.

Son says that he was walking across campus when the police started showing up and by the time he got up to his room, he got the text alert from the school. A couple of his buddies on the floor said they were in the cafeteria nearby when officers came in and told everybody to clear out(?) Not sure why they didn’t just lock down the cafeteria also but that story could be second-hand hearsay chalked up to some wide-eyed 19 and 20 year olds...

There is no way this can be happening. North Carolina has a tough law against carrying a firearm on school property!
It’s amazing how many of theses type of events have been happening during this election cycle. I’d better get my tin-foil hat on quick.
Alert has been cancelled. They could not locate suspected gunman. Classes still cancelled this evening and asking everybody to stay alert.
