Mormon, Catholic doctrines can collide (No coffee, tea in polling place?)
East Valley Tribune ^ | March 1, 2008 | Lawn Griffiths

Religious and cultural traditions collide in odd ways.

• Is it right to tell election poll workers, assigned to Mormon church meeting houses, to not bring coffee, sodas or anything else caffeinated to refresh themselves during their long day tending to voters?

-SNIP-

First, let’s look at the polling place duties and sipping Maxwell House in the meeting house.

Longtime Tempe poll worker Mary Ann Hemmingson has signed up to work the polls for the March 11 election. She’ll spend her 14- or 15-hour day in a church, but no longer one that belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“I never sign up to work at a Mormon church because the board workers there are not allowed to have any caffeine on the premises,” she said. “That means no coffee in the morning and no Diet Coke in the afternoon. ... You don’t want to see what I look like without my daily dose of caffeine. It’s not a pretty picture.”

“The Word of Wisdom” portion of the Doctrine and Covenants, put forth in 1833 by church founder and prophet Joseph Smith, says that “hot drinks are not for the body or belly.” Add to that what H. Burke Peterson, first counselor in the Presiding Bishopric, said in 1975: “We know that cola drinks contain the drug caffeine. We know caffeine is not wholesome nor prudent for the use of our bodies. It is only sound judgment to conclude that cola drinks and any others that contain caffeine or other harmful ingredients should not be used.”

Advising followers to restrict what they take into their bodies is one thing, but applying that mandate to those people who perform a public job inside their buildings in a one-day stint seems to be taking things too Far.

Not of works, lest any man should boast Ephesians 2:9

***

That is correct it is talking about the natural man and his idea of work.

Would you not call the kind of work the Terrorist islam is doing is of the natural man?

Those who are humble and doing the will of the Father is doing the Lord’s work.

Eph. 4:
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

1 Tim. 5:
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

Heb. 6:
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

D&C 97
10 Verily I say unto you, that it is my will that a house should be built unto me in the land of Zion, like unto the pattern which I have given you.

11 Yea, let it be built speedily, by the tithing of my people.

12 Behold, this is the tithing and the sacrifice which I, the Lord, require at their hands, that there may be a house built unto me for the salvation of Zion—

13 For a place of thanksgiving for all saints, and for a place of instruction for all those who are called to the work of the ministry in all their several callings and offices;

14 That they may be perfected in the understanding of their ministry, in theory, in principle, and in doctrine, in all things pertaining to the kingdom of God on the earth, the keys of which kingdom have been conferred upon you.

15 And inasmuch as my people build a house unto me in the name of the Lord, and do not suffer any unclean thing to come into it, that it be not defiled, my glory shall rest upon it;

16 Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God.

17 But if it be defiled I will not come into it, and my glory shall not be there; for I will not come into unholy temples.

Why don’t you want to answer how a non-mormon obtains salvation and how a non-mormon is able to receive the antonement of Jesus Christ?
****
Must be having a Resty day!:)

I used the word Mormon to appease you, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, I am LDS.

Out of courtesy showing a little class towards with those you disagree will not detract anything from you if you call us, LDS and also cap proper name like Mormon.

“Why don’t you want to answer how a non-LDS obtains salvation and how a non-LDS is able to receive the atonement of Jesus Christ?”

If I answer this question what is your intend?

1 Tim. 5:
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work
____________________________________________________

Resty are you a widow over 60, only ever married to one man ???

Only widows over 60 can be saved ??????

Honour widows that are widows indeed. But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. And withal they learn [to be] idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. For some are already turned aside after Satan. If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed. 1 Timothy 5:3-16

The Bible wording leaves room for many to debate on the meaning the word of the Lord, in the Book of Mormon leaves no doubt of what man should do.

Interesting, bom teaches strict monotheism as does the bible, yet mormons are polytheistic.

bom (as well as D&C) taught polygamy was an abomnination, yet smith practiced it.

The reason you have 30k plus churches and doctrines is because the Bible is subject to every whim that comes down the pike

Be interesting to see you 'documentation' for the 30K+, but never the less there are 100s of mormon groups OTHER than the LDS Inc in SLC, many of which claim to follow bom more closely than LDS Inc. The bible has thousands of extant MS to refer to, the bom only two sets of handwritten ms, yet 4000+ changes over the years.

so when you quoted the BIBLE scripture

Eph. 4:
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
_______________________________________________

And I added the rest of that peice of passage...

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; Ephesians 4:11

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Ephesians 4:12

And asked you...

“Which are you, Resty ???

Are you an apostle, a prophet, an evangelist, a pastor, or a teacher ?????”

You come back with ...

“I am LDS”

Because Joseph Smith or Brigham Young or restornu added LDS to the list...

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; AND SOME LDS; Ephesians 4:11

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Ephesians 4:12

I know what apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, andor teachers are to do, but what does an LDS do ?????”

So you like to refer Father, Son, and Holy Ghost as polytheistic!

Sorry if you find it difficult to cap proper names this conversation is suspended!

First, if you’ve been wanting to try our canned cheese, your opportunity will be here shortly! Yesterday, the delivery truck driver dropped a pallet off the end of his truck into our warehouse and managed to smash 24 cases worth. So, AS SOON AS THE TRUCKING COMPANY COMES TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE, we’ll have plenty of dented cans to let you try! (Please see http://www.internet-grocer.net/dented.htm for pricing and order quantity limits.)

Second, We’ve been told that our NEXT shipments of canned cheese and canned butter will go up about $10 per case. This is your LAST opportunity to buy at our current pricing. And, to celebrate our coming price increase (say WHAT??), we’re offering you $6.00 off per case of OUR CURRENT (non-dented) STOCK. This is ONLY while current supplies last. Here are the coupon codes to use for your online orders for butter or cheese:

Butter code: BPBU
Cheese code: BPCH

You can also use these codes by phone or email to get the discounts.

Our suppliers will not guarantee pricing on DEHYDRATED foods for longer than 3 weeks at a time. While we’re able, we’re continuing our 10% off sale on #10 cans and #2.5 cans of dehydrated foods (not freeze-dried, dehydrated only). This sale can be ended at any time since oil has hit $105/barrel. Here is the coupon code to use for dehydrated foods orders:

Dehydrated foods code: CANS10 (that’s “cans ten”)

You can also use this code by phone or email to get the discount.

As always, if you order 200 or more pounds of product, the cart CANNOT figure correct shipping charges. We do it manually BEFORE we charge your card ... and we get your approval on it first.

Lastly, we found a genuine, online, work-at-home opportunity that provides you a permanent email address and a website (if you want one) ... and they pay you just for introducing others to it. Why use this permanent email address? Well, for example, everyone who’s signed up for this newsletter using AOL or Yahoo or any of those services, NEVER get it, unless they check their spam folder. You won’t have this problem with these folks! Check out http://tinyurl.com/3495xm if you’re interested and read the testimonials. You really can make money online with this.... enough so you’ll have to work a job only if you want to.

Have a great March! Write if you get work (as Bob and Ray used to say....).

Allison Irwin
and that little ol’ newsletter writer, me (Bruce)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Right there Paul is calling the Body of Christ, saints..

Says nothing about “latter-day saints”...

It’s every person who ever lived and called on the name of God..and were saved...

Now there are several scriptures on the “latter days” but no “latter day saints”

I checked my Strongs Concordance..just to be fair...

I’m serious about the handling of the Word of God...

Thanks Nana. You said it better than I could (#633).

What Nana said restornu was exactly what I wanted to convey to you. Please read those versus again.

By the way, I'd like your proof that the radio clip from the Christian program "The Heart of the Matter" is fake?

http://www.graphicdesignpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/lowpoint.mp3

By the way, the LDS man who called, "Bishop" John O'Fallon (the 'High Priest') lives in Crystal Lake Illinois.

It should be easy for someone with access to the info on the bishopric members in Crystal Lake to disprove the statement O'Fallon made that he is in the bishopric.

That clip is so inflammatory I wonder that someone hasn't tried to counter it yet.
