“She refused to vote for Reagan”
Interesting.
I disagree. NK depends on China and China depends on exports.
The whole issue with North Korea & China could be solved by Bush informing the Chicoms that unless & until they “get their dog(NK) back on the porch” not one container of their junk will be offloaded in San Pedro, CA or anywhere else in the Free World. It wouldn’t take more than a month before the Chicoms would “get the message!”
If you want to get a point across to Commies & Lefties, all you have to do is squeeze their wallets and they’ll squeal like pigs every time.
How do you say "blockade" in Korean and "embargo" in Chinese...

“Alan Greenspan sat there for seven years every Saturday and drooled over her along with a lot of other members of the collective.”
I found this interesting.
Wonderful Buckley vids to watch here http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=william+f.+buckley&search_type=

I have similarly come to the conclusion that the Iraq war, as run by the so-called "neo-cons" was an enormous mistake. It was horribly expensive, and it has put the exclamation point on the fact that our post-war (WWII) power has been derivative of the willingness of others to provide goods and services in exchange for pieces of paper covered with grey-green pictures of dead presidents.
It simply was not thought through, and we are seeing the results of that. One of the gifts of Buckley was thinking things through with the humility of someone who understood the transcendent truth of Our Lord.
I disagree.
FDR & JFK would have given their right arm if they could have liberated 50 million people with less than 5K fatalities.
I know when I was in ‘Nam, we were losing 400 a month!
And I’m sure I don’t have to remind you of the final count of ‘Nam or the WWII losses!

Disagree if you wish. This will be our last adventure for some time as a “great power.” Much of our power has rested on the willingness of others to provide us goods and services in return for paper and IOU’s. We are over extended, both in terms of what we can accomplish and in terms of our line of credit. The $3T that some estimate this war cost us, could have been far better spent.
and one last thought before I have to leave you for the “chow hall”...
I would rather fight the terrorists on their sand than ours.
Which is why I am prefer fighting the WOT in Baghdad than Brooklyn!
There. I will get off the podium.
Have a good one.
Ciao
The problem is that maintaining an effective fighting force half way around the world has stretched what we can afford to bear to the breaking point, and at a time that we needed to be working down our debts, public and private, we have instead piled onto them. I think that much of what we are seeing with the housing crunch, subprimes, the collapse of the dollar and the rise of cold, etc. is directly tied to our adventure in Iraq. Financial and political capital needed to transform our own economy has been squandered on an overseas adventure.
Look I am retired Navy and as pro-military as the next guy. But this was one march too long. I have nothing but admiration for the soldiers and airmen who have fought this war, and the great job they have been doing. But that does not mean it was worth it.
“retired Navy?”
Have you ever served in combat, Sailor?
Submarine officer. If I told you I would have to shoot you.
Figures.
Well, unless you served in WWII, you haven’t seen any combat now have you.
And the only reason I asked is because of some of the remarks you have made.
“but our military superiority has rested, since the Civil War, on our prowess as an industrialized nation, our ability to arm our fighters with more firepower than anyone else?”
That has to be the most ridiculous post I have ever read on FR. The Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Soldiers who fought & died in WWI, WWII, Korea & Viet Nam and the Middle East would disagree with you, Submariner.
Personally, I walked “Point” for the Fifth Marines in Viet Nam in 1969 & 1970 and I can tell you from my COMBAT experience that I served with some of the finest Marines the Corps has ever produced. And we Marines didn’t win firefights & campaigns by having “more firepower.” It took guts. And the current Corps is even BETTER.
“Financial and political capital needed to transform our own economy has been squandered on an overseas adventure.”
“Adventure?”
Is that what you call this? An “adventure?”
You turm my stomach, mister!
We are at war.
And the sooner you wrap that brain of yours around it the better!
We didn’t start this war or have you forgotten 9/11.
But you can bet that we will finish it!
So you can talk all that negative talk you like but I have a hellofalot more faith in America, Americans and God.
So you might as well get used to this WOT because we are going to be at it for a long time.
Good evening, Sailor.
