It does sound like a gas explosion and I know it’s reactionary to assume terrorism, but 911 happened, like it or not. Given the intel and M.O. of Al Qaida wanting to cause a lot of damage in crowded areas, malls are a perfect target.
This looks like a strip mall, however. I really hope the casualties are very light!!!
Gas leaks are bad things, but in an occupied building, one would think that folks would actually SMELL the chemical they add to gas to make it smell bad, then someone would have called the fire department. Seems logical to me.
So... how does enough gas get loose in a building to cause an explosion without someone smelling it in a crowded building again???
Yep. I never want to go back to the south side of that town again. Horrible experiences there.
Sounds like it’s a strip mall, and not an enclosed mall. I would like to assume this is a gas leak, and not something more sinister...
Prayers for all involved — possible victims and all responders... No matter what the cause it’s definitely a bad situation...
I heard ED Hill give a calm and restrained report about this incident. Shep will be up in 10 minutes and we can see how high the hysterimeter goes...
I never look at the keywords, nor use them. I didn’t even KNOW you could “add” one until he made the comment about it. I skim over that header/footer stuff since it’s never really pertinent anyway.
Looks like the roof is collapsed where the HVAC equipment was located; if that happened first, a spark could have ignited an explosion of leaking gas, I suppose.
Looks like there could have been 10-12 inches of accumulated snow on the roof.
Wow... pretty amazing picture there. Quite a blast. I wonder if something happened with chemicals in the hair salon, or if Tuxedo World does their own dry cleaning??? I could see that compounding a problem like a gas leak making the explosion(s) much bigger and devastating structurally...
Thanks. Been a very long time since I was up there and drove around so I couldn’t remember for sure.
“how does enough gas get loose in a building to cause an explosion without someone smelling it in a crowded building again???”
Never been inside a beauty salon? You’re lucky if you still have your sense of smell when you leave!
Hey, we can’t go running around scared but it would be foolish to not consider terrorism a possibility.
Where’s that dog? Oh well...Snicker:’)
Colder climates are also hard on gas lines. Freezing, thawing, older or substandard plumbing - add ignition source, and poof.
Cool.
Pictures showed some collapsed roofs - on fox, that’s all I’ve seen thus far.
I agree with “Responsibility” to a degree about people jumping to conclusions, but... at the same time, I’ve been predicting since BEFORE 9-11 there will be mall attacks. I don’t expect strip malls to be targets though, instead I would expect to see attacks like the one a year back where the guy (or guys) walk in and just open fire randomly.
Now we’re seeing colleges getting hit, and we try to “restrain ourselves” about possible terrorist connections and it never gets put into the media that so far a lot of these killers have had SOME association in one for or another with Islam, or its teaching.
I’m certain the media doesn’t cover this information because they don’t want the world “jumping to conclusions”...
right?
LOL
