Will the "Willie Effect" Impact the Election?
Some speculate the controversy could cost McCain the White House

( Cincinnati ) -- Some reports claim the on-going controversy involving 700 WLW talk show host Bill Cunningham (Willie Cunningham) and presidential candidate John McCain has the potential to impact the results of the 2008 election.
Ohio is a key state in the presidential election. For Republicans it is essential that they win as much support as possible in southwest Ohio to counter the strong Democratic party support in the Cleveland area.
Political Science professor Jason Johnson from Hiram College spoke to the Cincinnati Enquirer and told them John McCain needs radio talk show listeners and Willie fans to go his way, "John McCain needs those people if he has any hope of winning in November."
With other national talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity rushing to Willie's defense, it widens the rift between the party's conservative base and John McCain even further, at a time when the Republican party has only recently started to solidify around the likely nominee.
Why thank you. Same to you.
I have to admit that I only hear him on Sunday nites in the old Drudge time-slot, but am not that impressed with him.
“Hide and watch, come November, it will be a Democrat landslide from the Executive to the Legislative branches. Count on it.”
I believe that would be just fine with Dane as amnesty coming from the donks is probably even better than amnesty coming from the Repubes.
Theres nothing liberal or conservative about it. Its simply the way it is.
And I totally understand that, but one professor's comment is not the political gospel, neither is some blowhard's parading for the media for his own aggrandizement.
And the question is ... do the election results in SW Ohio really hinge on the loudly-stated opinions of Mr. Bill Cunningham?
Somehow I doubt it.
“McCain is nowhere near my ideal candidate.”
McCain is the enemy. He certainly sides with them enough.
That's exactly what he's doing. What was his appeal to conservatives anyway? I'm still trying to figure that one out.
You realize, of course, that your illogic is beginning to look bad for you, don't you?
You'd do better to argue that maybe McCain can pull out Ohio without SW Ohio. You could argue that Cunningham won't have that big an effect. Both of those would be better directions than the one you've taken.
I don't begrudge your supporting McCain. Who knows...he might patch this up, and I might still hold my nose and vote for him.
But, what if he's pulling a Dole and trying to lose?
Some people are very easily fooled. Huckabee had the evangelicals and a lot of conservatives who were turning to Huckabee as an anti-McCain vote. As long as Huckabee stays int the race, those voters can’t complain that they weren’t given a choice.
Just say no to McCain and his Judas Goat.
so in no way was he contrasting those Anglo-Saxon middle names, including two of Founding Fathers, with the middle name Hussein, when he was comparing Obama to an inner city black mugger who will leave you nothing but your spare change?
It’s my observation that “conservatives” like Mr. Cunningham are so caught up in their own emotional state that they apparently fail to consider the alternatives in an adult way.
IOW, bend over and grab them ankles “just one more time” for yet another left-wing Repub.
No thanks.
Uh that is what I have been saying in this thread.
At least you’re admitting that I have “power”, which I have never stated I have. WE as conservatives TOGETHER have power (that excludes you, naturally) and we’re exercizing it daily.
You feed at the RINO trough. You’ll follow McCain and the GOP off a cliff. Like the blind leading the blind...
I don’t think you are right. It makes little sense to think that the McCain campaign wants Huckabee to remain in the race. McCain even asked to have spending limits from public financing removed . . . and he wants that spending against his general election opponent and for himself, not directed by the state contests in the primaries.
“But, what if he’s pulling a Dole and trying to lose?”
Dane would most likely be fine with that, amnesty is amnesty no matter who is dealing it.
It’s all over the news here, r9. I woke up to it this morning. It’s in the papers. And Cunningham is an expert at getting his explanation of things broadcast.
If there is going to be any influence in this area, I’d bet that it would be in Cunningham’s direction than otherwise.
But, who knows. There’s nothing irrational about the analysis of this professor who is the basis of this article. Believe it or not, there are lots of folks around here who support Pete Rose. And that, too, could be argued on either side.
The question is “Will Cunningham influence Ohio by influencing SW Ohio, his home base?” I would say that that is more likely than Rudy Giuliani’s endorsement of John McCain leading to a McCain win in New York.
Nope...I just looked at his record and remarks on immigration and taxes. I think you bought into his superficial charm.
Daley, of the Chicago-Daley political machine, is not black. Moreover, even if “mob” were a criminal reference, it would be an Italian one and not an African-American one.
Talk show hosts on radio and TV make the decision to never run for office in a way — all those broadcasts create fodder for opposition research. Ugly stuff when a single sentence can be taken out of context. That said . . . how the heck is Al Franken not getting buried by his prior statements? So, maybe, I’m wrong.
Are you really so caught up in your own emotions that you're unable to look beyond them to the consequences of an Obama presidency? Just swell.
