McCain Slams Swiftboat Vets
Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 1:19:32 pm PST
Has anyone ever really shown that the allegations made by the Swift Boat Veterans against John F. Kerry were false? If someone has refuted the charges conclusively, I’ve never seen it—which makes John McCain’s continuing antipathy toward the Swiftboaters inexplicable: McCain Scrambles to Control Backers.
Speaking to reporters aboard his campaign tour bus late Tuesday, McCain acknowledged that conservative independent groups pursuing a similar line to Cunningham’s could be impossible to control.
“I think you have to worry about that, particularly the 527s,” McCain said, referring to the independent advocacy groups that are not subject to contributor limits.
“We’re aware of many of the things that 527s have done ... where unlimited amounts of money can pour into negative campaigns such as we saw against John Kerry and his combat record, as we saw against (former Georgia Sen.) Max Cleland ... they’re really very not accountable to anyone. At least I have to say ‘I’m John McCain and I approve this message.’”
And no, I’m not saying ‘down with McCain’ here. But in this case, I think he’s scoring some cheap political points at the expense of people who don’t deserve the bad rap.

Thus regardless of who ends up in the White House, I cannot bring myself to vote for him. Like W, he would probably end up being strong on National Defense and taxes. However, like Bush, he will be a disastrous RINO, with regards to every other PC issue and will end up caving to the DHIMIS even more than W has-which is quite a lot. Thankfully, whether or not I vote or for who, here in Vermont, is wholly irrelevant, thus, I wont lose any sleep and whatever the outcome, will learn to adapt, go to Church more often and pray a lot for our countryGod Bless It!! You have expressed my sentiments perfectly.
Thank you for your service, then and now.

I want to state for the record that I will be voting against Barak Obama, not for John McCain.
My view exactly, if I can avoid barfing all over the voting machine. OTOH, if the DemonRats chose the Witch, I'd have no problem at all voting for a third party.

Thank you my friend.
When I finally shared the details of my military service with my kids, they certainly understood I was no hero. Indeed, I had to tell them about being confused and conflicted as a young twenty year-old trying to sort out the unpopular war.
For me and my two brothers, it was always about doing our duty. Our father was a POW in WWII, who was liberated at the end of the war. He was 19 years-old at the time. To me, that was real sacrifice by the greatest generation. Regretably, he still had nightmares twenty-five years later.
Thanks in large part to President Reagan, One of the highlights of my dad's life was when he was given the Prisoner of War Medal in 1985. He passed away in 1991.

Why is McCain sliming veterans who came forward and told the truth about a man who told harmful lies about then before congress then?It just could be that McCain doesn't want a lot of the people who spent time at the Hanoi Hilton talking about his record there. There's a lot of that stuff out there, I just wish some fellow prisoners of war would come forward and speak publically about it.
I personally resist all efforts by the left to equate "Swift Boating" with "Lying".

Although I don’t like what McCain said, I notice he didn’t say the accusations against Kerry and Cleland were false.

Most disgusting of all, what Cunningham said and implied about Obama was entirely true. Obama needs to be hit with a truthful, enthusiastic, negative campaign, just what Cunningham began to do before McCain stabbed him in the back, just like McCain stabbed the Swiftvets. McCain's only hope is that we become so afraid of Obama that we vote for McCain out of pure fear, not a very good way to bring out enthusiastic supporters, especially ones who've been deliberately dissed when they were beginning reluctantly to support him.

NYT, you have my consent to have your way with this SOB.

I agree. We contributed to Swift Boat Vets. It's one of many, many reasons why I can not vote for him.
McCain is weird and nasty. With his suit with big shoulders and his short arms, he reminds me of a cartoon figure of a zoot-suiter and Cindy McCain at his side reminds me of Nurse Ratchet.

I told them how when I came home, the media depicted soldiers and servicemen as war mongers and baby killers. It has always amazed me that these left wing Nazis who support abortion called us "Baby Killers".

McCain is like other moderate Republicans who are kinder and friendlier with their enemies than they are with the true base. McCain isnt stupid. Its just that he is philosophically closer to the Democrats. Perhaps not stupid, but certainly self-absorbed ...along with his numerous, and I mean numerous, close friends on the other side of the aisle.
History will record, by the very legislation he has helped to author, that he was conjoined with the likes of Ted Kennedy, Russ Feingold, John Edwards, and Joe Lieberman. It will also record that he fought President George Bush on every conservative issue raised over the past eight years, which sadly, weren't that many.

McCain mortally dislikes any political smear directed at any veteran. He doesn't care what party and he doesn't look into the allegations to see whether they are true. As soon as he hears them, he consigns the smearers to the lower circles of Dante's inferno, and gets as far away from them as he can. It is quite simple, and the wonder is that anyone is so hyperpartisan they are surprised by it. Ike was the same way, and destroyed McCarthy over the same sensitivity. They are American vets first, every other identitication is secondary and dispensible.

Thank you for your service. Always a pleasure to meet a fellow Navy-man who served in Viet Nam.
Don't even get me started about abortion, the politically correct word for murder, performed by real baby killers. Even yet, they continue to support late-term abortion, the senseless killing of viable infants who would easily survive outside the womb. Then the hypocrites give us the never ending mantra of "it's for the children." Hah!!

These are the people that sank John Kerry”s Swift Boat (which I am one of). Why is McCain trying to sink his own ship? He has continually pushed more and more conservative votes away. Has his cancer metastasized to his brain?

Hey McCain, want a million dollars for your campaign?
Well, then there is a million on the table from T. Boone Pickens for anyone who can prove that anything the Swiftboaters said was demonstrably false. So go collect the money, but if you CANT Prove them false I suggest you SHUT THE F#CK UP smearing them or you wont have any base to vote for you whatsover. ****************************************************** Worth repeating......again.
If I hear this sort of garbage from him *one* more time...

There is no way this rat is getting my vote.
I feel like a rubber ball. Everytime those socialists Obama or Clinton opne their mouths, I think I have to vote against them.
Every time the McCainiac opens his, I understand why I can’t vote for him either.
They are disgusting. He is repulsive.
