McCain Slams Swiftboat Vets

Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 1:19:32 pm PST

Has anyone ever really shown that the allegations made by the Swift Boat Veterans against John F. Kerry were false? If someone has refuted the charges conclusively, I’ve never seen it—which makes John McCain’s continuing antipathy toward the Swiftboaters inexplicable: McCain Scrambles to Control Backers.

Speaking to reporters aboard his campaign tour bus late Tuesday, McCain acknowledged that conservative independent groups pursuing a similar line to Cunningham’s could be impossible to control.

“I think you have to worry about that, particularly the 527s,” McCain said, referring to the independent advocacy groups that are not subject to contributor limits.

“We’re aware of many of the things that 527s have done ... where unlimited amounts of money can pour into negative campaigns such as we saw against John Kerry and his combat record, as we saw against (former Georgia Sen.) Max Cleland ... they’re really very not accountable to anyone. At least I have to say ‘I’m John McCain and I approve this message.’”

And no, I’m not saying ‘down with McCain’ here. But in this case, I think he’s scoring some cheap political points at the expense of people who don’t deserve the bad rap.

Clean campaign or not, he seems to focus a lot of energy on repudiating conservatives.

Why is McCain worried about the veterans?? Is he trying to get some pre-emptive licks in? What information is he concerned about?

What has McCain got against being elected President? He sure seems to be throwing up obstacles to his biggest source of votes.

Kerry’s anti-war activities were fair game

And Democrats clearly still lack leadership to this day, Obama and Clinton as UNfit as Kerry to be Commander and Chief of American Military forces.

Samply had tried to align himself with the Swiftboaters and implied that he had a leadership role there. McCain looked at the Swifties and saw Sampley or similar.

McCain would seem, at best, to be a bit superficial.

Gambling against 4 to 8 years of Marxist policies or 4 to 8 years of a erratic unstable old man whose policies have all the direction of a fart in a wind storm.

What a helluva set of choices we have.

Senator, I served with John Kerry: I knew John Kerry; John Kerry was a friend of mine. Senator, you’re no John Kerry...

He “released” the records to specific individuals who, surely at his behest, have refused to expose them further. Thus his claim that he released them and proved his veracity thereby.

Apparently he did “sign” the 180 but for exclusive release to a friendly recipient who simply said that Kerry’s service was honorable and refuses to specify or allow further inspection. If so, then very narrowly construed, he is not actually lying about “signing.”

I am curious about his insistence that he would be aggressive in Iraq while his pronouncements also show that he means to in some ways cripple the homefront.

Swift Boat Veterans were boycotted by the news media until their best-selling book, “Unfit for Command,” created a stir the media could no longer ignore. The Swift Boat Veterans not only represented their immediate comrades, dead and alive, they spoke for the majority of all Vietnam veterans. Their courage and tenacity in the face of a viciously partisan and hostile press helped unite millions of veterans into a decisive voting bloc. God bless them all.

Nothing says "Big Government Liberal" like wanting even MORE control over political speech.

I have to wonder if he really is the Manchurian Candidate.

We may have two of those in this race. The other, of course, would be the one running for Messiah.

McCain isn’t going to keep much credibility in attacking Obama for being uninformed, naive and not ready for primetime, if he himself is uninformed, naive and not ready for primetime. McCain seems a lot more interested in protecting his friends no matter what, than in being honest, in running a serious and aggressive campaign. Thank you RINO voters for giving us this choice. Thank you.

Hey McCain, want a million dollars for your campaign?

Well, then there is a million on the table from T. Boone Pickens for anyone who can prove that anything the Swiftboaters said was demonstrably false.

So go collect the money, but if you CAN’T Prove them false I suggest you SHUT THE F#CK UP smearing them or you won’t have any base to vote for you whatsover.

" wouldn’t read too much into a man simply wanting to run a clean campaign. Hypersensitivity to perceived “insults” is the path to liberalism."

You'd know all about that "path to liberalism", seeing as you've been travelling along it for some time.

Okay, as a Viet Nam vet I'll say it, "down with McCain."

RIGHT ON BROTHER!! Here are my comments from a posting yesterday:

In 04, McLame had already alienated many for his stand and actions related to the POW/MIA hearings; how he and Kerry basically shut down any further investigations, berated, impugned and chastised Veteran family members and witnesses and refused to hold Vietnam’s feet to the fire in requiring concessions toward any relaxations of its tyrannical human rights abuse, much less insist on a more complete accounting of POW/MIA information.

Then, in 04, when we Vietnam Veterans began a concentrated effort to expose John “The Snake” Kerry for the backstabbing, traitorous POS he was, he basically told us to get over it, keep quiet and go away.

He also dissed and attacked the Swift Boat Vets for truth as well as John O’Neil’s book (Unfit for Command) BEFORE it was even released.

Rather than support us (or at the very least stay neutral) he came to the defense of his good “bud,” Kerry, the very same Kerry who thru his anti-war actions and antics and his ilk, had been responsible for prolonging the war thereby, protracting the suffering he and the other POW’s endured by years.

When he did this, McPain lost what little respect he had from me and many other vets and regardless of his having endured much as a POW, this in of itself could not justify his actions.

At that time (and I wish I still had it) I wrote him a 4 page letter in which I expressed my disappointment and anger towards him and the one thing I remember well is that I told him that even if he had found it in his heart to forgive and forget what Kerry had done, I could not.

Thus regardless of who ends up in the White House, I cannot bring myself to vote for him. Like W, he would probably end up being strong on National Defense and taxes. However, like Bush, he will be a disastrous RINO, with regards to every other PC issue and will end up caving to the DHIMIS even more than W has-—which is quite a lot.

Thankfully, whether or not I vote or for who, here in Vermont, is wholly irrelevant, thus, I won’t lose any sleep and whatever the outcome, will learn to adapt, go to Church more often and pray a lot for our country—God Bless It!!
