US glad for hostage release by ‘reprehensible’ Colombia rebels
7 hours ago
WASHINGTON, Feb 27, 2008 (AFP) The United States Wednesday welcomed the freeing of four lawmakers held hostage by FARC rebels in Colombia, but branded the force “reprehensible” for continuing to hold captives.
“We’ve seen the reports of the hostage release, and we’re very grateful that that has happened,” State Department spokesman Tom Casey told reporters.
“It’s still reprehensible that the FARC ever took these individuals hostage in the first place,” he added.
“And it’s equally reprehensible that they continue to hold hostages, including our American citizen contractors who have now spent several years in captivity.”
Three US nationals — Marc Gonsalves, Thomas Howes, and Keith Stansell — were captured by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in 2003 when their plane came down during a joint US-Colombian anti-drug reconnaissance mission.

What are we doing about it?
What are we here at FR doing about it?
How about some publicity or monetary donations to aid these Americans? Anyone know of legitimate efforts to help?
