FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Catholic diocese officials say a priest accused of sexually abusing minors is HIV positive.
After the Reverend Philip Magaldi recently told another priest that he has the disease that causes AIDS, the diocese alerted people who have lodged allegations against him.
The diocese in Fort Worth said it also notified parishes where Magaldi served.
Church officials say they believe Magaldi has been HIV positive since 2003.
He was removed as a priest in 1999 after sexual misconduct allegations arose in Rhode Island and Fort Worth.
i think that’s a tad overboard.
not me.....boot them out and keep them out.....they violated any trust between the Church and themselves....
frankly, I haven't been to a regular church Mass since our diocese started collecting to pay off the lawyers and the accusers.....the lawyers made out really good....
“They reshuffle them all.”
Some did and some didn’t.
” I think Cardinal Law might have gone to prison if hed stayed here. Thats why hes now in Rome.”
Ummm...no.
The police never pressed charges against Law.
After the police took a pass on him - he wound up being reassigned to a church in Rome where he does not have the responsibilities associated with his old position.
“Law, Geoghan, the priest who co-created the North American Man Boy Love Association and all the others certainly made the little children suffer.”
yes...they did make the children suffer.
This is the first time I’ve read Geoghan co-created NAMBLA.
“Why do you think most of the men who ARE bishops are bishops?”
ummmm....because they were appointed by the Pope?
I didn’t say that Geoghan did. I can’t remember the name of that male sex organ. Law, Geoghan, x and all the others certainly made the little children suffer. I think x=Shanley, but I’m not sure.
I’m completely disgusted by Law. This is what the whole situation could make people think:
He heard about Geoghan and Shanley, had talks with them, put them through counseling, reassigned them to different parishes where they again did their horrendous deeds. This went on through decades. Law never thought he was participating in the abuse himself. And he prayed and heard confessions and so on. I wonder if he really believes that Jesus was the Son of God who died on the cross to take away the sins of the world. Maybe not. How could he? Are they all perpetrating a hoax?
ok...we all know about Law - and we know the police had their opportunity to make a case against him, but did not.
Do you have any concrete examples in mind that causes you to claim that bishops are somehow using money to avoid prosecution?
Do you have proof of this?
So...are you saying they are collecting money in order to pay off authorities?
And you know this...how?
After the police took a pass on him - he wound up being reassigned to a church in Rome where he does not have the responsibilities associated with his old position.
oh ok...I read your post wrong...yes, you must be referring to Shanley.
I think I remember reading about his association with NAMBLA, but was not aware he was a founder.
” I wonder if he really believes that Jesus was the Son of God who died on the cross to take away the sins of the world. Maybe not. How could he? “
many people wonder about that I’m sure.
However...it is one thing to suggest that the Church secreted him away from the police in order to avoid prosecution - which isn’t true.
It is important to be accurate.
The police chose not to bring charges.
” Are they all perpetrating a hoax?”
What are you talking about?
So...the fact there are some dirty cops necessarily means all cops are bad?
When some teachers hurt students - that necessarily means all teachers are bad?
“He was a cardinal here and now, hes a cardinal there”
True, but with important differences.
He was previously presiding over a large diocese, which involved jurisdiction over many churches, many priests, and many religious orders.
More territory - more authority - more stature.
He is now a glorified fundraiser for a basilica in Rome.
While most people think this is still too cushy a situation for him and would prefer for him to sit in a cell - he still has fallen far from the respected position he once had.
You know that it is more than ‘some’ priests. Let me put it to you this way. Every priest I ever knew violated people that I know. I’m an empiricist. I go to church on occasion, and I am respectful of parishoners and their faith. I have not one ounce of respect for the clergy.
And getting back to Law, I can’t see how it is possible for him to reconcile his (purported) beliefs and his actions. He violated those children as much as any of the priests under him. He *knew* it was going on. He could’ve defrocked them, but didn’t. In other words, he participated. I’m not as kind as I should be, I’m not as charitable, ...... But Law?! Oh my goodness, how can he live with himself?
As an empiricist, you should find this article interesting then.

You didn’t use the word “some” - you used the word “all”.
“And getting back to Law, I cant see how it is possible for him to reconcile his (purported) beliefs and his actions. “
Me neither. That was not what I was disputing.
I was disputing your insinuation that he was called to Rome in order to avoid prosecution.
“. He violated those children as much as any of the priests under him. He *knew* it was going on.”
That is correct.
” He couldve defrocked them, but didnt. “
Yes - that is correct as well.
” In other words, he participated.”
Agreed.
“Oh my goodness, how can he live with himself?
I haven’t a clue.
Actually, I used the word ‘every’ - and I used it purposefully.
I was referring to this statement....
“Are they all perpetrating a hoax?”
But yes...you said “every” as well.
But the numbers don’t support your opinion.
Then you didn’t know very many Priests.
It is a minority of Priests who violated those children and another minority of priests who protected the perverted priests.
I also knew priests who violated boys I knew but it wasn’t the majority of those I knew.
The reassigning was horrible and those involved in that are also responsible but again, it’s a minority of priests. Just like it’s a minority of sexual predators who continue to violate children and teens.
Another thing that interests me with my Church’s priests who are sexual predators, is that they’re homos and that isn’t played up in the media as much as it should be.
‘The’ numbers might not support my opinion, but my nos. (derived from experience) do.
Have a good evening.
a good evening to you too.
