His assistant Linda Bridges says Buckley died Wednesday morning at his home in Stamford, Conn.

I decided to check out the venom on DU. So far, the comment are mostly — though not all — respectful.

RIP, Bill.

Pray for the nation given 3 really lousy, non-conservative choices.

Reagan made me recognize that I was conservative, William F. Buckley and National Review taught me how to be one. Rest In Peace WFB.

He was my hero. He converted me in 1983 from liberalism to conservatism. He has always been gracious and cheerful. No liberal intellectual was ever able to match him. He will be missed more than anyone I can imagine.

His political debates in the 60’s with Liberal Gore Vidal were awesome.

I’ll never forget seeing him leaning back in his chair on the PBS show way back when, so much so, you thought he would fall backwards any minute now.

The man was bigger than any words can say.

One of the few people on TV I actually enjoyed listening to. Just saw an interview on Charlie Rose.

Rest in peace Mr. Buckley.

Bill Buckley was my Dad’s favorite conservative. Firing Line was the lone conservative voice in the media for years.

A great conservative. RIP WFBjr.

RIP, Mr. Buckley.

Sadly, a good metaphor for the current state of the conservative movement.
