Rove: Don't "Hussein" Obama
The Atlantic ^ | 2/27/08 | Marc Ambinder

No less an authority figure than Karl Rove has warned Republican operatives from demagoguing Barack Obama's middle name.

At a closed door meeting of GOP state executive directors in late January, Rove said the safest way to refer to Obama would be to use his honorific, "Sen. Obama."

"The context was, you're not going to stimatize this guy. You shouldn't underestimate him," one of the executive directors said. Rove said that the use of "Barack Hussein Obama" would perpetuate the notion that Republicans were bigoted and would hurt the party.

Rove also said that Republicans should refer to Hillary Clinton as "Sen. Clinton," rather than "Hillary."

Right wing figures are set to ignore Rove's advice. Rush Limbaugh used Obama's middle name more than a year ago, and Ann Coulter regularly uses the middle name, once calling him "President Hussein." So does Michael Savage, who once asked whether Obama was a "so-called friendly Muslim" or one more "radical."

Well, Barrack Hussein Sinclair Obama just needs to be treated with respect, like all communists should be.

Foolish, There is absolutely no reason to surrender the use of terms to the Dhimmicrats, not only does that put Republicans in a weakened place in the debate, but we will have no reciprocity from the Dhimmicrats.

They are raising 20 million in Soros money to attack the Iraq War, perhaps we could write letters encouraging the Dhimmis not to do so?

DC is not inhabited by men.

Gee, Karl...

Shouldn’t you be chastising the liberal, communist, marxist, progressive party and liberal media in general for “Mister Bush”?

STFU...

Rove is not out of touch. He may not be the best policy advisor, but he knows how to win elections. The proof is in the results.

The fact that we lost the 06 mid terms should not be held against Rove. Republican and Democratic presidents alike have fared miserably at the midterms.

i agree with rove here. we will gain nothing by emphasizing his name. we need to attack his politics, which are radical enough, and leave his name out of it. it is superficial and will only make us look bad.

Hussein, Barack HUSSEIN Obama, Barack Hussein Obama, BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA.

I'm sick and tired of BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA being immune from his records being checked, his private life picked apart to see if he has any dirty little secrets, from criticism of his political record (such as it is) and NOW even from punditry.

With respect, in this case Mr. Rove can go soak his head.

Can’t we call him Osama, then. It’s just a minor Typso!

As the commentator “Spengler” mentioned in a recent column, radical Islam wasn’t the major issue in Obama’s formative years; Marxism was.

How would the media report it if John McCain’s middle name was “Adolf” or “Hitler”? His name would appear in its entirety every time, that's how.

You know, having been on the other end of the media and the Democrats constantly refering to George Felix Allen, I gotta say I think Rove’s got this one wrong.

Until yesterday I was pretty confident that McCain stood a good chance of winning. But if he’s going to go out of his way to attack conservatives that say what he obviously cannot say . . . he’s off track. WE need to point out the obvious . . . B. Hussein is not someone that we should be comfortable with as President. His wife is not proud of the country, his church give awards to Louis Farakhan, his mother married two muslims and had her child raised in Islam, and B. Hussein gravitated to the hard left in his career with employment at Alinsky organizations. He’s a danger. We need to say it . . .

Without the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Kerry would probably be President today. Rove is a legend in his own mind. Bush entered office with a Rep controlled Congress. He is leaving with a Dem controlled Congress and a GOP in disarray thanks to appointing folks like Martinez as RNC chairman and trying to push amnesty down our throats. Karl Rove has been a disaster for the GOP and conservatives in particular.

If Rove likes the Sen. title then fine. Sen. Hussein works for me. Forget about dropping the middle name. It is his legal name just like Senator is his formal title. Rove can do what he likes, but he needs to chill and stop bossing the rest of us around.
