“If I vote my conscience, none of the current GOP or DEM candidates will get it. If I decide to hold my nose, McCain will get my vote. IF I decide to hold my nose.

And I still stand by this statement.

Give me a reason to vote FOR John McCain, not a reason to vote AGAINST the Dems.

Conservatives haven’t found out how to solve that problem due to the bane of Conservatism:

Over Abundance of Pride.

Every group believes that they “have the answer” making productive co-operation impossible, when 5 people all think they are “right” no one can admit they are wrong, add in pride, and even changing course becomes impossible.

Sorry, I’m conservative and could never get excited about Fred. He looked old and arthritic. I still like Romney, but lets face it his religion did him in.

There are many conservative black leaders out there that would be ten times the candidate Obama is, who would garner my vote. Obama is a throw back to Louis Armstrong. BUT

Like Reagan, his words appeal to the masses.

Funny how he’s sitting back and letting his supporters speak for him, describing who he is. Reminds you of Reagan.

“A whole lot of people believe that McCain is not the least of the threats, and they have, contrary to the writer’s opinion, a valid point.”

First, the writers opinion concedes their point, but asks if repeating the point without offering any solution is productive. I fine question with not such a good answer.

“Fearmongering. Talk about useless.”

You call it “fearmongering” - but it is fact. Addressing none of the three threats at all IS suicide.

“Here is where the leap is made. - The only must is that we “must” stop Republican liberals from sitting in the GOP - We can deal with the democrats anytime that we do.”

True, and the base message of this column. But we failed to do that in 2008. So, now what?

“Apparently, the writer is indulging in this right now.”

No, as conservatives are still more interested in shooting at each other than developing sound solutions, the writer is ON THE MARK in his slapping conservatives for doing so.

“Conservatives will start winning when they actually do something about the size and scope of government instead of just talking about it.”

Most conservatives in office are CINO, pronounced “see no”, they are conservative in name only and “see no” government program that they can’t support. CINO’s are politicians and we must understand that they only care about themselves. Until we get back to electing true Conservative legislators instead of professional politicians we are going to loose.

“It’s an American Quitter!”

Sort of reminds you of a lot of the Republicans in congress. Such a shame.

What I find interesting.....everyone talks about changing the RNC, but no one has a road map on how to do it. I am not sure that an American Conservative or group of them can change the RNC. I think it is out of our hands.....

I think this a bit of over analysis. 70% of the country is not conservative. I’d like to know where he gets that from. It may be that 70% give conservative like answers to surveys, but when it comes to voting they’re not conservative.

The split is probably much closer to 35/35/30 between actually voting liberals, conservatives, and the “mushy middles” that go in all directions.

So, why aren’t conservatives winning? It’s a combination of a lack of boldness, direction and leadership and big dose of this...

From John at PowerlineBlog.com:

“... Today, the benefit of that experience has largely been lost. A generation of American voters has not experienced the failures of the Great Society, the near-collapse of American cities, double-digit inflation and unemployment, seventy percent tax brackets, or the disaster of Jimmy Carter’s foreign policy. In the absence of historical memory, and with a powerful assist from the ever-forgetful press, liberalism is once again emerging as the philosophy that sounds good. The fact that it doesn’t work awaits as an unpleasant surprise for a new generation. In the meantime, Barack Obama may well be the plausible candidate who can lead voters, once again, down the blind alley of leftism. He is, as Steve Hayes argues, an opponent who must be taken seriously. ...”

You are arguing against yourself. Bush I lost because he reneged on his no new taxes promise and we got Clinton I. Clinton ran as a centrist btw. We lost Congress in ‘06 when President Bush ran left. McCain is even farther left - how do you think this bodes for our representation in Congress? In the Presidential race in ‘12?

Conversely, we won in ‘94 because the Democrats ran left. We won in ‘80 because of leftist Carter, and Algore and Kerry lost to Bush because they were too left. Note again Clinton ran as a centrist, as did those who gave the Democrats the majority in ‘06. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have been absolutely ineffective at getting their agenda thru because the nation has no desire to go left.

The last 30 years have shown that running left overall is a loser. Which is why I don’t want McCain as President. We have a much better chance of victory by letting our opposition go left and countering in the next election.

Arnold is the proof. As I said in the last thread, when the author wants to explain Arnold to me and make it consistent with his theory, only then will he have credibility with me.

For all yours and the author’s ‘theories,’ history doesn’t jibe.

First, Reagan only won with 51% of the popular vote, and he won because Carter was a complete disaster. Bozo could have beat Carter after four years of disaster, be even then, Reagan only won with 51%.

Nobody knew Reagan was a great leader until after he was elected. Then he was re-elected by like 57% as a result. So great leadership does work. But never forget that Reagan was also the only president to push for and pass REAL amnesty for Illegals, then fail to secure the border after.

We do have beauty contests today. But how do you explain McCain on that basis?

Conservative principles still win in America, when they are offered. How do you get around the reality that conservatives are failing to advance their agenda?

How do you vote when there is NO conservative to vote for?

That’s the discussion. Everyone on this board would vote “conservative” given that chance and they all did, for eight different conservatives, that’s how we got McCain with 35% of the Republican vote.

How will your vote not matter?

This author starts out with a false premise.

America has exactly the mess of a government it deserves because it always has the government it elected. In reality, our messy government is a precise reflection of our very messy electorate.

Proof can readily be found here!

When our so-called primary "election" has been manipulated and tweaked by the RNC to the point of allowing me, and millions of others, NO CHOICE in the primary, I will not sit quietly and allow some pompous "conservative" pundit/author blame me for the fiasco.

The king was annointed after only 6 states had been heard from and crowned after only half the voting public had their say. This so-called primary "election" has been nothing more than a circus from start to finish for the sole purpose of entertaining the sheeple.

“It is enough that the people know there was an election.
The people who cast the votes decide nothing.
The people who count the votes decide everything.”
-Joseph Stalin

There wasn’t a viable conservative in the race, just pale pretenders.

And thats how the GOP ended up with the 37% candidate as the nominee.

Its also why the next time we here Obama’s complete, legal name it will be in the following context;

‘I, Barack HUESSIN Obama, do solemnly swear....’

Moderates dont’ lead by definition, and ‘anger politics’ as practiced by John McCain have virtually ensured Democrats keep the House and Senate - increasing margins in both, along with the Whitehouse.

But hey, no problem...McCain will work with Democrats....(sarcasm)
