Karl Rove Responds to '60 Minutes' (CBS Drive-By journalism)
Fox News ^ | February 25, 2008 | Brit Hume

Karl Rove says he does not recall ever meeting the woman who is accusing him of asking her to help dig up dirt on former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman and was never given a chance to respond to charges she made Sunday on "60 Minutes." Rove is the former top political adviser to President Bush and is now a FOX News contributor.

Sunday night, an Alabama lawyer named Jill Simpson said on CBS' "60 Minutes" that Rove was behind an effort to derail Democrat Siegelman's effort to win back his office in 2006 -- after losing it in 2002. Simpson said Rove asked her to get pictures of Siegelman in a compromising sexual position with an aide. But the Associated Press reports Simpson has never made that allegation before -- despite several hours of interviews with congressional lawyers, reporters and a sworn affidavit.

"60 Minutes" said in its piece, "We contacted Rove. Through his lawyer, he denied Simpson's allegations." But Rove and his attorney Robert Luskin say CBS brought up the allegations only in an off-the-record telephone interview last October. Luskin says, "After '60 Minutes' made the decision to publicize these charges, no one from '60 Minutes' approached Mister Rove or gave him an opportunity to respond on the record."

Karl Rove is the epitome of an honest Republican, looking out for the interest of this country. How did his name get drug through the mud like this?

The means justify the ends I guess is what I mean. He just puts facts on the opposition to a glaring degree. Shame he will never be President since he would be torn to pieces over his love of the country and his methods of helping it.

Many years back when I watched 60 minutes, they would often be chasing some hapless soul, who was trying to duck the camera while insisting they had "no comment".

I wonder that they didn't try to get a statement from Rove.

I think McCain (after he gets the official headnod) should name Rove as his VP nominee. Imagine the moonbats heads exploding from coast to coast.

Why is that? Rove is a great patriot who could put this country right back on track IMHO.

I assume your question is facetious, but just for the record. Rove has been attacked for one reason, and one reason only: He has been effective. There is no greater 'sin' in the socialist theology than interfering effectively in their grand plan for eliminating the functioning middle class so that everyone is dependent on government.
