Sudan Bans Danish Goods in Prophet Case

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) -- Sudan has enacted a ban on Danish imports in reaction to the reprinting of a cartoon that satirizes Islam's Prophet Muhammad, the Sudanese state-run news agency said Tuesday.

Seventeen Danish newspapers reprinted the cartoon — showing Prophet Muhammad wearing a bomb-shaped turban — in a gesture of free speech on Feb. 13, a day after three men were arrested in an alleged plot to kill the drawing's creator.

The reprinting prompted protests in Muslim countries and among Muslims in Denmark, though so far the reaction has been low-key in comparison to the 2006 riots that followed its original publication.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir said over the weekend that Sudan would ban Danish imports, snub the country's officials and expel its organizations from Sudan.

"The customs and duty authorities have promptly executed the ban on the import of Danish commodities," police customs chief, Gen. Salah Ahmed al-Sheikh, was quoted as saying by the official SUNA news agency.

Trade with Sudan is a small share of Danish exports. Danish trade with the Middle East and Africa consists mainly of dairy products.

Wonder what the total value of Danish imports to Sudan comes to...

Do they make oil drilling equipment? That might bite.

But then the Sudanese would simply launder it through a third-party firm...

Denmark’s largest agricultural export is Baby Back Ribs, not a big seller in Sudan I’m guessing.

Sudan Bans Danish Goods in Prophet Case

The "prophet" was a "case," all right--a nut case. A psychopath at the very least. So are his Islamofascist followers.

“Time for us to step up and buy Danish!

And, show some solidarity by leading US newspapers publishing the cartoons as well. I’m not holding my breath...

Somehow, I cannot imagine that there is very much total value to the amount of imports to Sudan from Denmark.

As poor a country as Sudan is, what commodities could be involved???

YUM! I can see the salt clinging to the fries and that mac&cheese looks fast-foodedly cheesily delicous, just the way I love it! Just curious though: whenever someone posts a picture of a plate of food as is done quite often on this site...do y’all randomly take these shots or do you have a special folder just for food items?! :-)
