White House policy targets those hiring illegal workers
Houston Chronicle ^ | Feb. 22, 2008 | NICOLE GAOUETTE

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration said Friday it planned to raise fines significantly for employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, part of a broader effort that includes improved border security after Congress failed to pass immigration-related legislation in 2007. The hikes in employer fines would be the first since 1999....

The Homeland Security department has intensified raids on rogue companies in the past three years, prosecuting executives on criminal charges and arresting workers, who often use valid Social Security numbers, for identity theft.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff offered examples Friday of his agency's heightened focus...He cited the human resources director of a Missouri poultry plant now facing a 10-year prison sentence for hiring illegal immigrants...and the owner of an Indiana company sentenced to 18 months in jail and forced to forfeit $1.4 million....

The increased employer fines will take effect March 27. The minimum penalty would increase by $100 to $375. The maximum fine for a first-time offender would jump $1,000 to $3,200. And the maximum fine for repeated violations would rise from $5,000 to $16,000. Fines are assessed on a per-person basis, so an employer with 10 illegal immigrants on staff would pay 10 fines...

It’s all BS. You know the government has a record of all the duplicate Social Security Numbers being used and not matching names. They could be picking up illegals left and right, thousands a day, but they refuse. They are stalling because the next president will give them all amnesty.

Strictly speaking, you need to say the next CONGRESS will give them all amnesty. As Bush learned last summer, the President can’t do it on his own.

this is where Conservatives have to make a stand....they did it to us.....now Conservatives have to take on not only the old media, the politicians, the muslims, the illegals, the demonrats, and the rinos, I know Conservative Americans can beat them all, release the KITTIES. Americans are being lied to by all of the aforementioned. If these aforementioned groups are going to take me down, my family, and my fellow Americans, I want to give them one heck of a fight....Where’s my pitchfork? Going to get my pitchfork....

Simple solution: make employment expenses for illegals NOT “deductible” business expenses, and attempts to deduct such expenses TAX FRAUD.

Then, let the IRS enforce the law.

Raising fines without going after the employers is just like rasing the fines for speeding and not doing anything to catch speeders.

“You know the government has a record of all the duplicate Social Security Numbers being used and not matching names.”

We’re doing it here in Indiana. BMV is checking all existing drivers license names against the social security number used to obtain the license.

If they don’t match, the license is revoked.

Some states have had just about enough of this BS.

I’m in AZ and it’s working! Lot’s of illegals have left...and guess what? The grass is still getting mowed...the houses are still getting cleaned...etc...etc...the predicted “labor shortage” has not occured.

And, the AZ Courts have ruled it legal! Whoo-hoo!

The obvious solution is a tamper proof SS card that an employer has to run before a person can be hired.

Works pretty good for credit cards.

If a credit card # is being used in 2 different places on the same day at the same time they catch it within minutes.

You and I will never know the actual figures, but as I understand it the illegal alien children in the K-12 LAUSD has dropped somewhat. That’s what is reported in Oklahoma also. There may be something to this in part.

I have alway suggested that cutting off the spiggot would have beneficial rewards. It’s why I refute those who state that we would have to round them all up. No, just cut off the freebies and the jobs Americans won’t do, and watch the south facing lanes on our highways.

They have to go after the facilitators, too, like the Chamber of Commerce, the Republican National Committee, the unions.
