White House policy targets those hiring illegal workers
Houston Chronicle ^ | Feb. 22, 2008 | NICOLE GAOUETTE

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration said Friday it planned to raise fines significantly for employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, part of a broader effort that includes improved border security after Congress failed to pass immigration-related legislation in 2007. The hikes in employer fines would be the first since 1999....

The Homeland Security department has intensified raids on rogue companies in the past three years, prosecuting executives on criminal charges and arresting workers, who often use valid Social Security numbers, for identity theft.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff offered examples Friday of his agency's heightened focus...He cited the human resources director of a Missouri poultry plant now facing a 10-year prison sentence for hiring illegal immigrants...and the owner of an Indiana company sentenced to 18 months in jail and forced to forfeit $1.4 million....

The increased employer fines will take effect March 27. The minimum penalty would increase by $100 to $375. The maximum fine for a first-time offender would jump $1,000 to $3,200. And the maximum fine for repeated violations would rise from $5,000 to $16,000. Fines are assessed on a per-person basis, so an employer with 10 illegal immigrants on staff would pay 10 fines...

...who knowingly hire illegal immigrants...

It'll undoubtedly depend upon the definition of knowingly.

Oh yeah and they need to cut off all assistance as well . . . uh duh! Should never have been happening anyway! I still can’t believe how many illegals are sucking the gov’t tit and living off good citizens’ tax payers’ dollars or million and billion dollars to be exact.

How about they start handing out penalties for sectors of the government that fork out social services and funding to illegals as well?

Oh wait...that'd run counter to the so-called "compassionate conservativism," wouldn't it?

GAH! ANNOYED!

I think that is the idea, or it should be. I think we could get more than half of them to leave by just making sure that they can’t work, can’t use fake SS numbers, can’t get drivers licenses, etc. It is working very well in Oklahoma and Arizona, and parts of Virginia, but they just to to another state. If their methods were applied across the country, we would have a half-way decent chance of getting a handle on the problem.

Yes, but here in Los Angeles we will take whatever we can. Anything to take a sting off the swarm. We are desperate. Even the smallest gesture is a relief. I would prefer an all out assault though as this is what needs to happen. Holistically the whole SHE bang—no anchor birth for citizenship needs to happen. How an illegal can get citizenship by illegally birthing here is ridiculous. Also the hindrance of security and fence as well as true hindrance fines if not jail time for employers that hire illegals.

There have been token raids. That’s about it.

Immigraton services could be executing these types of raids daily in many locations if they were serious about the issue.

How many illegal immigrant worker facilities (places where they congregate to be chosen for daily jobs) that have been set up by cities across this nation have been raided? Zero.

How stupid to our officials think we are anyway?

We are sadly yet obviously being governed by the politicians the movie “Ideocracy” was modeled after.

Did you see the illegal on Sean Hannity’s show last night? She explained that because all of us Americans have jobs and money, we SHOULD pay to take care of those who don’t.

Barbara S.....this nation could be cleared of illegals overnight, or at the most 90 days, if anyone cared at the W.H. and congress. Where’s my pitchfork?

No, I did not watch that, because it is so painful when my head explodes. What did Hannity say?

REFERENCE Mexico's President Calderon Headed to U.S.
newsmax | February 12, 2008 | Philip V. Brennan
Posted on 02/13/2008 By VU4G10

Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who has has publicly stated his concern for the "growing harassment" and "frank persecution" of Mexicans in the United States, will make his first official visit to California Wednesday and will meet with immigrant leaders among others. Speaking to the Mexican government's migrant assistance agency in November, his comments about "persecution" appear to have been aimed at U.S. presidential candidates who voiced their desire to curb illegal immigration. He also expressed disappointment at Congress' inability to agree on an immigration reform measure. While in the Golden State, he will address the state Legislature and attend a private lunch meeting with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, and other officials. According to George Grayson, a government professor at the College of William and Mary in Virginia who specializes in Mexico, Calderon also is coming to the United States to apply political pressure on U.S. lawmakers. ---SNIP--Calderon wants his 1.4 billion in US taxpayer loot - no questions asked. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1969534/posts

Five-year Amnesty Bill Under Discussion
NumbersUSA | 2/18/08 | N/A
Posted on 02/18/2008 by Kimberly GG

"Some House Democrats are having behind-the-scenes discussions about creating a special visa for illegal aliens they believe will enjoy considerable Republican support. Under the plan, illegal aliens who can prove they have jobs, pay a fine, and pass a criminal background heck will receive the gift of legal status for 5 years. The plan is designed to attract pro-business Republicans and those who backed the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill by also increasing the number of visas issued for technical, temporary and agricultural workers."........(Excerpt) Read more at numbersusa.com http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1972338/posts

Did he have the time to explain communism or socialism to the lovely lady? That just angers me to no end. The arrogance, the ignorance. The demands. Pa leese! Sorry I missed it. I would have liked to see Sean interview this person with such an attitude. I hope this enlightened others that don’t get what attitudes are being imported along with the illegals.Wish I would have seen it.

Yes. Great point. The migratory aspect has to be eliminated if we are going to move them south and back over the thick welcome line.

I know that liberals, hispanics and government types won’t admit this but the war that you, me and all the rest of the people on FR and through talk radio brought to the door of the US Senate last year created a tidal wave which local governments couldn’t ignore. And it gave them the political courage to finally start stepping up and doing at least something about this problem.

Without us declaring a jihad against McCain in 2007, none of the cities who have repealed their sanctuary laws would have happened. The raids of employers by the INS would NOT have happened (since Chertoff loves him some illegals) and the publicity of illegals who commit crimes would not have happened either. And certainly nobody in Rhode Island would have turned against liberal ideology and started to deport illegals.

So, congratulations to all of us for that. But we arent’ done yet.

If a “virtual fence” is such a great idea, let’s put one around the White House.

drip, drip, drip...

we have tens of millions of illegals & only God knows how many foreign muzzes who want you, me and everyone else who isn’t a muzzie d...e...a...d and this administration has been slower than molasses in securing the borders and “taking out the trash!”

After the next 9/11 terrorist attack;
all hell is going to break out and Bush will be sitting on his ranch down in TX all safe & sound, surrounded by the Secret Service saying “Hey, we did all we could do.”
