Right after that, a documentary against the Iraq war and GITMO are announced in a second award category. Is this outrageous, or is it me? Having the military introduce a film on same sex issues given the don't ask don't tell policy, and then have it followed by anti Iraq war, anti WOT films is political and using the troops as pawns IMHO.
Quote from the winner:
Let's hope we move this country away from the dark side. . .
Easy there tough guy. I was sitting in the living room with her doing work on my laptop. It was playing in the background and I wasn’t paying attention to it. I don’t have to leave the room to not watch something.
I don’t think Academy people see anything wrong with what they did...In their view, showing military personnel before awarding the prize to the anti-military documentary is OK. I guess we could say that they are “out of touch”.
Was the Academy trying to tell us not to get too mad at it for the Best Documentary award? After all, it chose to “honor” some members of military by using them as announcers?
Or was the Academy trying to tell us that many US military personnel are “decent” compared to the “bad ones” in THE TAXI TO THE DARKSIDE?
It doesnt matter who won, it matters who was nominated. You have no basis for stating that the Military knew who was nominated, who they would be announcing, and that even if they knew the names of the nominated films they knew what those films were about.
That’s not the argument. The argument was that a film about homosexuals won, and that this was somehow known by the Motion Picture Academy ahead of time and thus the military was set up. No one knows the winners beforehand. The ballots are kept under lock and seal by Price Waterhouse. Now, you can choose to think otherwise, and it appears you do, but you choose to ignore fact by doing so.
