US Military Used to Annouce Oscar Award that Goes to Documentary About Homosexuality?

Right after that, a documentary against the Iraq war and GITMO are announced in a second award category. Is this outrageous, or is it me? Having the military introduce a film on same sex issues given the don't ask don't tell policy, and then have it followed by anti Iraq war, anti WOT films is political and using the troops as pawns IMHO.

Ok, of all the categories to have them announce for, you choose the one with a pro homosexual message and then follow it with a category including 2 anti war movies + a Michael Moore movie (3/4, 75% chance of it being anti bush winner). Please, if they really didn’t know who was going to win, they still gambeled well. There’s no way you can say this was purely conincidental. It doesn’t matter who won.

I saw it, and was first pissed at the weak applause for the troops, then furious as the anti-Military “documentaries” were lauded.

When that puke who gave his little “let’s move away from the darkside” speech finished, I almost threw my remote through the TV.

The troops didn’t know, and neither did we. But the scheduler and the Academy directors KNEW which documentaries were nominated and which ones won. They KNEW it, and that was precisely why they chose that category to have the troop introduce. It was absolutely intentional.

Who cares for Gods sake . This is the first time since world war two that our military was shown in a good light by this event. It was seen all over the world. Who gives a fhhk what film they announced , it’s only a movie , that ten people (maybe ) saw. Lighten up for Christ sake . I am thrilled the military families back home got to see there kids. Sheesh. Ditto. Even though the final tabulations are a secret the Oscar production people can still “exit poll” and have other tools to keep the surprises ( to them ) at a minimum during the broadcast. Keeping their votes in the minor categories secret are probably not a main concern to the academy voters.

Since they knew there were only 4 nominees for short documentary, they knew the chances were 50-50 it would be the same-sex film that won or Sari's Mother, a film about an Iraqi kid suffering from AIDS who can't get treatment because the American soldiers destroyed the healthcare system.

Or as the Oscar's website summarizes it: "On a farm in central Iraq, a mother struggles to care for her ten-year-old son, Sari, who is dying of AIDS. As the boy's condition worsens, his mother must deal with a health care system that has fallen into chaos under the American occupation."

For those who didn’t see it, a group of soldiers ( 5? ) and airmen were chosen to present. Not sure how they were selected. The Department of Defense and the military departments involved had to approve it.

The soldiers were introduced by Tom Hanks. Via satellite from Iraq, each one presented the nominees and Oscar for best Short Subject Documentary. A film about same sex marriage won.

Immediately next Tom Hanks introduced the nominees and presented the Oscar for Best Documentary, many films that were anti war/American. The winner was a documentary accusing our troops of killing a taxi driver in Afghanistan.
