Islam is one of the fastest-growing religions in the U.S. By the year 2010, America's Muslim population is expected to surpass the Jewish population, making Islam the country's second-largest faith after Christianity.1
The American Muslim community is a mosaic of cultures, its members having come from all of the five major continents. In fact, a recent survey showed that most Muslims are immigrants -- 77.6% versus 22.4% U.S. born.2
This same survey indicated that the ethnic origins of the Muslim community are as follows:
26.2% Middle East (Arab)
24.7% South Asia
23.8% African American
11.6% Other
10.3% Middle East (Not Arab)
6.4% East Asia
While there are no official population figures for religious affiliation in the United States, experts estimate that there are approximately six million American Muslims. Other estimates range from four to eight million.3
The Britannica Book of the Year estimated that, in mid-2000, there were 4,175,000 Muslims in the United States, 1,650,000 of whom are African American in origin. An average of 17,500 African Americans converted to Islam each year between 1990 and 1995.4
The earliest group of Muslims to arrive in America in significant numbers came from West Africa from 1530 to 1851, because of the slave trade. They comprised an estimated 14% to 20% of the hundreds of thousands of West Africans forcibly removed from their homelands.5
The next sizable number of Muslims immigrated to the United States during the early 20th century. They came from Lebanon, Syria and other countries across the Ottoman Empire.6
The post-World War II era, during the 1960s and '70s, saw the third substantial wave of immigrants from all parts of the Islamic world. This wave included large numbers of Muslims who came to study at American universities.7
Approximately a third of American Muslims live on the East Coast (32.2%), 25.3% live in the South, 24.3% in the Central/Great Lakes Region, and 18.2% in the West. 8
There are nearly 2000 mosques nationwide as well as numerous Islamic day schools and Sunday and weekend schools.9

I know when I lived for a short time by a mosque that there are many jailhouse Muslim converts. They weren’t too friendly either.
I am incredulous that our government, who is sworn to protect us, lets in batches of people who belong to a group that has sworn to destroy us. Why don’t we have any say in this??????

Baba, we have laws on the books. They are NOT temporary laws. They are solid, clearly written laws. The laws need to be enforced, the (double) fence built, and our country will be secure - from the drunk driving, molesting, gang banging, drug dealing, murdering ‘entitled’ invaders. And, invaders from any and every country, that wish to come here illegally will have no access.
It’s a given.

Well said yorkie! If people want to come here they must do it the legal way & wait their turn. I am so sick of so many people coming here on work visas too. They are taking work away from Americans. I am sick of treating illegals when our own people need help. Its time to enforce the laws we have and USE them. Build the fence & do it asap!

I question that assertion. The vast majority of immigants to the United States from the Ottoman Empire and its successor states prior to 1980 were Christians, and this remains true even if one excludes the Greek disapora in the wake of the Second Greco Turkish War, though after 1940 the percentage of Arab immigrants to the US who were Muslims increased.
I went to a gas station that had just been robbed (I’m a cop, don’t hold it against me) and what I saw in the backroom where the Muslim owner had his digital security cameras was interesting.
He had a sign up on the wall, I can’t remember it all word by word, but parts of it said “I am a Muslim and I will die for Islam.” “I will give my life in defense of Islam.” He also had a picture of Che on the wall.
America, what a great country, give low interest loans to our enemies so they can open up convenience stores, restaurants and gas stations. Then send the money back overseas so nuts can buy things to kill us with. Gotta love it.

Islam is non-tolerant of all other religions. Any one not a believer of Muhammad as the true prophet is a kaffir who must be subjugated, destroyed or killed. That is the the fatwa issued in kuran. There is no compromise, no negotiations and no mercy.
