Senator John McCain delivered remarks yesterday to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center in Washington D.C. Below are Senator McCain's remarks, as prepared for delivery: Thank you. I appreciate the invitation to talk with you about a great and urgent challenge - breaking our nation's critical dependence on foreign sources of oil, and making America safer, stronger and more prosperous by modernizing the way we generate and employ energy. Oil is often called the lifeblood of our economy-the indispensable commodity that keeps commerce humming and America on the move. But, in today's world, our dependency on foreign oil and the way we use hydrocarbons is a major strategic vulnerability, a serious threat to our security, our economy and the well being of our planet. Fortunately, there are times in a nation's history when great challenges coalesce with great moments of opportunity. We are at such a moment today. We have the urgent need and the opportunity to build a safer and thriving future with more diverse, reliable, and cleaner energy. But it will take another indispensable commodity to make it happen -American leadership. I'm running for President to help provide that leadership. And I want to talk a little today about the direction I want to lead us and why. Oil is a vital resource and we will always need it. But we account for 25% of global demand and possess less than 3% of proven reserves. Most of the world's known reserves are in the Persian Gulf, in the hands of dictators or nationalized oil companies.

He wants to conserve. Jimmy Carter and John McCain need to put on their sweaters.
And then there's this:
"A little over a year ago, a suicide attack at a major Saudi Arabian oil refinery came close to disabling its target. Had it succeeded, it would have driven the world price of oil above $150 dollars a barrel -and kept it there for a year."
Moron.
If a refinery is knocked offline, it raises the price of gasoline and other refined products, but it lowers the price of oil because one majory buyer of crude no longer can use it. It causes a glut of oil, and a shortage of the refined product.
Thanks for playing, John, but you're not the solution to the energy problem.
Hmmm, so McCain is adopting Obama's view on this. Just reaching out to the other side I guess.

Neither. They both don’t sh*t about the oil industry, drilling, the cost to develop alternative fuels.
Just because you say you want less dependence on forgein oil and that yes,” our consumption of fossil fuel” is excessive, doesn’t mean you have one F’en clue on how to cure the drunk from that oil!
Actually he is calling for more nuclear energy, would obama do that?

All he could talk about was GOREbal warming and getting all us sheeple on to driving electric cars.

No, he’s bought this global warming crap hook, line, and sinker, and is going to use it to tax you until you quit wanting energy.
This energy policy he announced is the equivalent of Jimmy Carter telling us to not heat or cool our houses.
You can’t conserve your way into energy independence. It’s just not freakin’ possible.
To me his stand on the global warming hysteria is at or near the top in importance.
Accepting the green’s and UN’s version of this possibly non-phenomenon would lead us straight to socialism and world government. We would be saddled with increased costs in every aspect of our lives as well as a huge loss in personal freedoms and sovereignity.
We need to fight this tooth and nail, just like we did with illegal immigration
He sounds like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. And that is NOT a good thing.
I don’t want that guy anywhere near the White House. And when Thanksgiving rolls around, lets all agree that John can eat in Arizona.
Folks are walking into a buz saw with this guy. He will join with the democrats to stick it to this nation as sure as can be. The thing is, very few republicans on the Hill will oppose him.
This guy is going to have a free pass to do things without opposition that we have only dreamed of in our nightmares.
But what’s our choice?
Obama or Clinton would be disasters that would take decades to undo - if ever (think Roosevelt’s new deal)
I’ll be voting for mccain, and then we’ll have to oppose him on certain issues like we did with bush on immigration and myers.
“There is much we can do to increase our own oil production in ways that protect the environment using advanced technologies, including those that use and bury carbon dioxide, to recover the oil below the wells we have already drilled, and tap oil, natural gas, and shale economically with minimal environmental impact.”
That is a long speech that seems very short on specifics. No proposals to drill in ANWR or off Florida. The above is all I find on increasing oil production, which is the only dependable short term way to decrease our dependence on foreign oil. Short term being about five or so years. Thin gruel.
But, he devoted much time to:
“I have proposed a bipartisan plan to address the problem of climate change and stimulate the development and use of advanced technologies.”
It will take more than McCain’s empty generalities to reduce dependence on roreign oil. This speech doesn’t contain much more in the way of real and specific solutions that an Obamarama revival meeting.
“We need to fight this tooth and nail, just like we did with illegal immigration.”
I’m with you. CO2 induce global warming is about money, not science. DATA QUALITY ACT is about science.
You will not be able to oppose McCain with a Dem majority in both houses of Congress.
He and the Dems will work together as they have for the past 10 years.
All McCain has to do to save his own skin is move to the RAT party. He was thinking about doing that in the last few years.
Geesh, how bad have faux conservatives become.
Removing Illegals with and without drivers license would help reduce consumption. But then they could catch yours if they did that.
