Kosovo, a former province of Serbia, caused international furor when it declared its independence this week.
While the world community works out the international implications of Kosovo's independence, others are worried about a Muslim-majority state in Europe. The creation of a such a state raises fears of a radical Islamic state that would persecute Christians and become a base for terrorism.
Christians Targeted for Almost a Decade
Since 1999, the Orthodox Christian Serb minority has been attacked by the Albanian Muslim population.
In 2004, Muslim mobs, angry at the murder of three ethnic Albanians, attacked Serb enclaves, destroying hundreds of churches and monasteries.

Oh Lord, get our people out of there.
When bombs that can be traced back to Kosovo start going off in Paris and Berlin and Madrid, then what? Hmm?
Of course, dating it to 1999, in part buys into the lies that got us here in the first place.
The Orthodox Christian Serbs of Kosovo have been being attacked by Albanians long before that. The Albanians in Kosovo joined with the Nazis and Ustashe in the persecution of Serbs, and even before that: a poster on another thread recalled that the Ottoman Sultan had to issue a ban on Albanian attacks on Christians, as it was hurting the tax-base for the jizya.
And in the interim: look at NYTimes archives from the 1980’s. Lots of stories about Albanian harrassment of Serbs.
All that happened in the 1990’s was the Serbs tried to fight back, only to have the West intervene on behalf of the terrorists and criminals.
I agree and I understand.
Clinton and bushes legacy is bushistan. Good job guys now radical islam has a european country.
HA!!!!!!
Nothing that hasn’t been said millions of times in the past 700 years since Turkey took the territory. The poster of the thread is obligated to comment on the thread.
I just did some map studies. The section of land that Kosovo wants to declare independant makes up over 3/4 of the land mass of Serbia, and there is many Christian Orthodox Serbs located in the northern area of Kosovo.
If FR had more room in the tagline field, mine would read.
"And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about." --Slobodan Milosevic
I keep hoping it's prophetic--not because I want any Westerners beheaded: that part is inevitable and has already come true. No, the part I hope is prophetic is that the West actually comes to understand.
That’s a most interesting and frightening video.
Imho, it deserves it’s own post on the front page of FR and everyone on FR should view and comment.
That’s comforting./s
As an aside, in retrospect, this wasn’t a bad day for the NYT’s to come out with the story on McCain, was it?
Almost like it was planned that way.
Too many American troops have already died protecting radical muslim expansionism and muslim terrorists.
It is time for George Bush to remember his job is to protect the interests of the United States - not of the new Islamic Caliphate.
Russia and China both oppose this muslim expansion and the stealing of sovereign Serbian territory by Albanian muslims.
Russia is already chafing at NATO’s expansion on its own doorstep and there is a fair chance that Russia will intervene to stop the killing of the remaining Serbs in Kosovo.
The US under George Bush certainly isn’t doing it.
Many people forgot, or don’t know, that the catalyst for WWI was a situation similar to this in this exact part of the world.
It started out small and ended up setting the world powers against one another.
Don’t think it can’t happen again.
Before World War I, some German or Austrian political leader (maybe it was Bismarck) declared, “Asia begins at the Landstrassen” (a district at the edge of Vienna).
Correction: it was Metternich who said it (”Asia begins at the Landstrasse”).
‘Almost like it was planned that way’
AMEN!
In the bigger picture you’re correct. Islam is expansionistic, violent, non-inclusive, and “incompatible” with many basic Western values (i.e. womans rights, law, freedom of expression, etc).
However, the idea that this justifies what happened in the Balkans at the hands of the Serbs a decade ago is absurd.
Has it occurred to anyone that part of the plan is to engage/preoccupy Russia somehow with this unstable situation? Perhaps goading them to intervene militarily.
Let me put it this way. Putin is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t in this particular situation.
