If you are running F@H on either a PS3 or on an ATI GPU card please head over and download the newest version of the beta for your platform.
Find the latest versions of software for Macs, PC and Linux here:

So Sony wins the format war and adds even more systems to find a cure for Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease.
Heads up!
Many thanks to EasySt for pointing this new software to us.

When will they come out with a kernel upgrade for WFW 3.12, and a p-166 patch?
Thanks for the post, TB.
Thanks for keeping us up to date TB!

I had to quit folding at home. My Dell notebook just couldn’t handle it. It’s a 2005 confuser but it don’t got the stuff, evidently.
Also, out here in dial-up land, I wish I could schedule or control when data is exchanged. I’d set it up to do so during dinner, so as to tie up the phone and prevent political and charitable solicitations.
But as it is, it was just unworkable. Darn.
Oh, I thought this was about the Antiwar Movement. Which way out of the dungeon?
oh well, I'm still having fun hanging out at #17 of Freeper Folders!
1996.
Thanks for the ping TB.
I just bought 2 new laptops, both duel core Turions. Does anybody have any suggestions applying these to folding? I never bothered reading any laptop info, as I never owned one until today. I’m runnin a duel on Viper, so setting up won’t be the problem, I think my concerns would be the health of the laptop. Where does sleeping and hibernating fit in?
Thanks for any and all help/suggestions.
The last I looked there were still about a dozen Win 95 systems worldwide contributing.
A P-166 would work if you could get the work units done in 100 days. Load it up with memory (maybe, 128 megs?) and find a very fast hard drive (I suggest taking a 120 GB drive and making a 2 GB partition). Even then it may not finish in time.
Have it fold away next to your new PS3. The P-166 would get perhaps 3 or 4 work units done in a year, while the PS3 would get about 1,100 complete in the same year.
Linux kernals also have time limits, just not at the same time. You should see beta updates next month for Linux.
The SMP kernals are the quickest to expire. Pande Group holds them down to 2 Months max.
Sleep when I close the cover and hibernate when I push the power button. That it.
F@H disengages just like any other program and resumes as we expect.
HOWEVER, I only run the console version 5.04 on my dual core, running two instances, one on each core.
I quit running SMP since I couldn’t guarantee completion of the work unit before the WU expired.
Two console work units won’t get as many points, but the science is still important and I never lose any work units.
Each core completes a WU in 30 - 48 hours, on average.
Thanks for the tips TB.
LOL, your coming like a freight train, and Dudley isn’t around to untie me from these tracks !!!!!!
Have at it, I’m still not sure if I want to rig these lappys.
How does it work?: You download a safe, tested program (see link below) that is certified by Stanford University. It gets work from Stanford, runs calculations using your spare computer power, and sends the results back to the University.
Is it safe? Yes! Folding@Home rarely effects computer performance in any way and won't compromise your privacy in any way. It only uses the computing power you aren't using so it doesn't slow down other programs.
How do I get started folding for Team FreeRepublic?:
1.) Download the folding program from Stanford University's folding download page (Folding@home Client Download). Type in your desired user-name.
2.) Type in 36120 for the team number. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - if you get the number wrong, you won't be folding for team FreeRepublic!
3.) The third question asks, "Launch automatically at machine startup, installing this as a service?" - We recommend you answer YES. Otherwise you will have to manually start the program after every reboot.
How can my computer help? Even if they were given exclusive access to all of the world's supercomputers, Stanford still wouldn't have as much processing power as they get from the supercluster of people's desktop systems Folding@home relies on. Modern supercomputers are essentially a cluster of hundreds of processors linked by fast networking. But Stanford needed the power of hundreds of thousands of processors, not just hundreds.
There's no reason to not get involved! It's free, easy, and you can know you're helping every minute without lifting a finger.
