For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk [McCain had an affair?]
New York Times ^ | February 21, 2008 | JIM RUTENBERG, MARILYN W. THOMPSON, DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and STEPHEN LABATON

Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.

Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.

Well it’s time to call it a night for me.

But I do, as expected and not that anybody cares, have some thoughts on the matter.

First, I can’t stand McCain and have no intention of voting for him.

But this story is so much hock tooey. Now if tomorrow brings more information that I’ll change my tune.

For sure the story insinuates that this Izeman woman, if I remember the name correctly, and McCain had an affair.

The McCain campaign doesn’t even whisper a denial to that insinuation and that factoid seems odd. I’m not much of a campaign person so maybe this is intentional. Don’t dignify the insinuation with a denial...sort of like “You don’t still beat your wife, do youj?”

On the other hand, maybe McCain DID have an affair with this woman. Although the NY Times doesn’t actually say such a thing, at least at this link.

Which brings me to...would McCain having an affair with this woman eight years ago matter at all? I frankly don’t know after Bill Clinton but since I intensely dislike this angry man it gives me more reason not to like him. Still, that’s an issue with conservative types and we already know what McCain thinks of conservatives. The liberals sure won’t care.

And if McCain DID have an affair with this woman, surely, surely, he knew it. Can something like this EVER be kept a secret in political campaigns nowadays. Sure McCain and his staff knows this was going to come out?

Finally, yeah, it sure is odd as all get out that the NY Slimes would endorse this guy all the while knowing about this. IF they knew about it as I’m still not at all clear what they knew about.

But that factoid makes no sense at all.

‘Any thread mentioning Keith Goebbelsmann needs a 10-megaton Puke Alert.’

What did that loser have to say about this? I was feeling too well to watch.

Personally, I think the Huckabee camp is behind this, specifically Rollins.

Not Ed Rollin's style. Not by a million years. Not when Ed knows Huckster is a clown candidate at this point.....Unless McCain keels over face first into his soup at dinner

Actually, the poster who wrote that, had a valid point. This stuff is out there, and it's real, and I guarantee you that this NYT article is the tip of the iceberg.

It appears they don't even need to quote sources, so all this stuff that McCain has in his Senate closet will come out.

There is a reason why we hardly ever consider a Senator for POTUS. In fact, almost never.

Keat, that’s a comment that will endear you to me forever. Lol.

I have to say if she and he both deny it, and nothing proves anything really occurred, well maybe nothing did happen. To go further is slander, and with malicious intent.

Nothing compared to Oval Office Hijinks! Whoops lets not talk about those days, eh Dems:(

Hey, congressmen have perks.

“You scratch my back, I rub your breasts”.

It’s how senators get things done.

Get him in a hotel room with a hidden cam.... thats a wet dream.

Okay well your explanation is closer to it. I’ll accept that, though still it is short of how I would normally define hero. This isn’t an issue deeply important to me. If everyone else is okay with calling captured people heroes then I’ll go along with it.

Wow. Start calling commenters stupid.

That’s when you’re down to your last damn debate.

McCain was not innocent in the Keating Five. It will hang over him.

Your calling me stupid does not change that fact no matter your obsession with semantics.

Do not miscontrue my failure to respond to your name calling debate as agreement with any further comment you make.

You may ignore me too. Argue with someone else that the Keating Five is but a big misunderstanding.

Nevermind..I keep forgetting about the double standard.

This is not an example of a double standard. This is an example of having different standards for different sins.

Americans hate hypocrisy more than they dislike "immoral acts"...those who claim a moral high ground and then are caught get far more disdain than those who simply get caught. This point is vital in understanding the mindset of mainstream America.

A vote against McCain is a vote for Obama and these sleazy left wing bastards.

The reverse is also true. This will backfire BIG time. The NY Slimes sleaze attacks can help to rally the GOP to support McCain far better than anything he himself could do.

NYT joins Free Republic and other Conservatives in bashing McCain.
Seriously people, are you really going to sit back and let the NYT choose our next PresidentThis stuff alone is enough to mobilize me against the ‘Rat lefties.
They will cover this old rehashed lie but wouldn’t dare touch the Larry Sinclair-OsamaObama story.

McCain is a pathological liar. We can be sure of two things - he wants open borders, amnesty, and CFR.

There is nothing to gain for democrats at this point with a story like this. I bet you will see something from Mike within the next 24 hours. He’ll go one of two ways with this: kiss McCain’s butt, or say McCain should get out of the race.

And betrayers believe they have a right to betray, that they are so important and valued that their victims should be lucky to have even known them. Those they betray are inconsequential to them, at best.

You are right about the self-centered quality. It is a serious character flaw.

His betrayals override any argument in his favor. He is found wanting, and unworthy of trust. One such as this should never be considered as the leader of the free world.

He is without honor.
