Clinton ad: 'She's worked the night shift, too.'

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is reaching out to blue-collar voters with a new ad that says she can empathize with the travails of the night shift.

“You pour coffee, fix hair, you work the night shift at the local hospital,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot, ‘Night Shift,’ over footage of workers on the job.

“You're often overworked, underpaid, and sometimes overlooked. But not by everyone. One candidate has put forth an American family agenda to make things easier for everyone who works so hard. ….”

The ad ends with a photo of Clinton working at her desk at night. “She understands. She's worked the night shift, too.”

Clinton’s campaign has noted a strong showing in Ohio’s March 4 primary is critical to her bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

So has Clinton worked the night shift? Spokesman Howard Wolfson said Tuesday that "the reference is to her working late at night at her desk."

“You’re often overworked, underpaid, and sometimes overlooked.”

Does this happen, sure. To everyone? Not likely. This is so much B.S. Most people know what their pay grades are before they even choose a profession. Unless you have a calling to teach, etc....... most don’t take a job knowing they are going in underpaid. I am talking about professionals, technical, vocational etc.... I am not talking about convenience stores, fast food et.al. If you choose that latter for a career, that is your choice. It is not up to government to get your wages increased. I worked the night shift as a machinist for several years, made good money and now I run the show and make even better for me and my family. That is what hard work does, it pays off.

This should make all of us feel better. We work hard on the night shift and she works hard at night figuring out how to take more of our money. Thanks Hill. It’s nice to be ignored anymore.

Yeah, but do the waitresses get to throw coffee in the face of a subordinate, too?

I hate to admit, but I have an idea for pretty effective copy for a Hillary Clinton ad.

“Hillary Clinton. She will be our next president. You can do things the easy way, or the hard way. The easy way is to just vote for her. The hard way is to not vote for her. She will then do everything conceivable and many things inconceivable to make it to the White House. She will make a mockery of the election if she has to. For your children’s sake and the sake of Hillary’s potential victims, could you live with yourself if you helped bring that about? But if you just vote for her, we won’t have to see the trouble.”

“Hillary Clinton. You can either let her win honestly, or dishonestly. The future is in your hands.”

Is that a cross over her shoulder?

Will the media (or anybody) make a fuss about this (ala Huckabee)?

Cleaning out Vince Foster’s office, hiding all those billing records, fretting over cattle futures, waiting on the private eye reports when Bill was out of the Governor’s mansion ... yep, she’s spent a lot of time up at night all right.

If I still worked nights I’d feel nothing but insulted at the shameless pandering. The audacity of somebody with $5 million dollars to “lend” to a political campaign who compares an occasional late night at the office to a blue collar worker with living expenses to worry over does not amuse me in the least.

These remarks by an early poster to that website really struck me:

Kentucky February 19th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I use to work the night shift at an Auto plant. You Hillary still have a job. When you and your husband put the stamp of approval on the NAFTA deal, I lost mine.

OMG the hilarity of this will be even too much for the most Hillary-sympathetic night-shifter.

Can you say BACKFIRE?

Her campaign is THE worst run in HISTORY. Do these people even leave their compound gates?

hillary has burned a lot of midnight oil dealing with numerous bubba scandals and bimbo eruptions !!

Of course, she had to work many a night hefting those FBI files to safety too. ;)

Thank you. My husband worked his ass off through high school, college and law school. He sacrificed a lot of free time to work hard and earn good grades. Now, he earns a good salary but he also works 60+ a week for a law firm. And how will all of his hard work be repaid? Hillary will redistribute his income to someone who didn't choose well and didn't work as hard. I'm really getting sick of this class warfare.
