Postmodern Epistemologies
by: Bethany Stotts, February 19, 2008
...How does style affect our perception of the text, and does style itself impart its own distinct meaning?...Modern Language Association (MLA) professors attempted to answer these questions by drawing upon postmodern academics who remain skeptical of absolute knowledge, one of whom belongs to the radical naturalist Brights movement. Among the scholars mentioned were Donald Freeman, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Mark Turner, Daniel Dennett, and Noam Chomsky....
Instead, Chodat referred the audience to the works of radical atheist and Brights Movement member Dennett, who is listed on the site as one of the movements enthusiastic brights. What is a bright? A bright is a person with a naturalist as opposed to supernaturalist world view. We brights dont believe in ghosts or elves or the Easter Bunnyor God, wrote Dennett in a 2003 column for the Bright website. Our colleges and universities teem with brights. Among scientists we are a commanding majority... Many of the nations clergy members are closet brights, I suspect, wrote Dennett.
Like other professors, Professor Hilary Edwards of Florida Atlantic University celebrated the complexities and deliberate, unresolvable, ambiguities within famous writings. Referring to Walter Paters The Child in the House, Edwards said that some of Paters sentences, replete with complex clauses, bend back on themselves in infinite regress...are complicated in a way that you cannot get to the bottom of them. But that is exactly [Paters] point, she said....
The title of this panel asks about the relationship between style and knowing, and if Paters style gives us knowledge about anything, it would seem to be knowledge about Pater himself, specifically from the...unique way of seeing things, said Edwards....

Is this another Ayn Rand thread?....
No.
Not hardly. These nitwits are just the opposite of Ayn Rand. The phrase "academics who remain skeptical of absolute knowledge..." tells you all you need to know about these pin heads. "A" really is "A" except to these twits.
I take it they believe there are “no moral absolutes” either.......
This is more post modern semiotic social programming claptrap designed to destroy any sense of objective, Platonic standards or ideals and turn humans in to sliding scale relativists capable of being persuaded of anything; and as such consists of a frontal attack on decisiveness, certainty and the capacity to act. Pomo semioticians are marxists who consider scientific method and its offspring, technological progress, ie., Western civilization, to be a pox upon the face of the planet, and attempt ot sap its foundations with mass wave attacks of hyper-jargonized propaganda that doesn’t look or sound like propaganda, but is.
This is the birthplace of PC newspeak and other Orwellian cognitive labyrinth traps, such as hyper-empathy, designed to vex and occupy academicians in one big ivory tower pole dance extravaganza dedicated to their own unperceived libidinal topology. Once you know their game and methodology, they become nothing more than rarified hair-splitting sectarian ideologues capable of massive self-lobotomy. I’m surprised they are still taken seriously even by their colleages.
Yah, pole dance is an applicable metaphor, you gnostic/druid/trotskyite brahmin overseers.
