Bob Parks: Outside The Wire ^ | 2/19/08 | Bob Parks

This shows just how desperate the Clinton campaign must be. Now, you know I am no supporter of Deval Patrick or Barack Obama, but to call this plagiarism is just lame and culturally insensitive….

The act of plagiarizing; taking someone’s words or ideas as if they were your own. I am not sure how this isn’t plagiarism? If he were to say, “As my good friend, Gov. Deval said....”, then I agree it isn’t plagiarism. But he didn’t and I believe that it is, in fact, plagiarism by definition.

If you or I, start doing stand-up and use Jerry Seinfeld or Richard Pryor’s words, we would find out very quickly it was plagiarism in no uncertain terms, from a lawyer near us. :)

From inevitability to desperation and in such a short time. It is to laugh.

As we don’t get to do this often, it’s now a good time to laugh at the Clintons.

Considering that the whole point was to answer criticism that Obama is nothing but words, to answer in someone elses words simply takes away the point he was making.

Obama’s characterization of his plagiarism being “no big deal” tells me that he cares little for intellectual honesty.

Listen up, Obama: Plagiarism is stealing. It IS a big deal.

Man, you all wake up cranky.

This is a golden opportunity to sit back and watch Democrats eat themselves alive.

Smile.

It’s not that it’s plagerism, it’s that he doesn’t have an independent thought.

He’s not original. His ideas are someone else’s ideas.

Of course, this distracts from Hillary trying to point out that he doesn’t have any plans either, just words.

And his “just words” riff is an insult to the people who said the words that he quotes, but then actually DID something to accomplish what they said they wanted.

Martin Luther King’s “I have a Dream” would really be “just words” if not for where he gave that speech, and what he did with his life.

Not if Seinfeld or Pryor encouraged us to use their words, which is the case with Deval Patrick and Obama.

Nonsense. They are friends and talk about ideas together. And most of the so-called plagiarized content was from King, Washington etc.

I didn’t know “I have a dream” could be termed plagiarism.

This is sheer DESPERATION on the part of the Clinton campaing.

They will stop at nothing to win.

Evil. Pure and simple.

I agree, this is desperation. It's not as if the whole speech was plagiarized, or even a large portions of it. Apparently, he ad libbed the ending. Maybe should have denoted or credited that, but I don't think rises to any level of scandal.

This is the Clintons going after Obama on his strength, which is his oratory skills. If this is all they have, they really have nothing.

CT, as you noticed, there are those who popped up for this thread. They’re right, compared to the rest, this is nothing... but a small insight.

As for character, we’ll start with another glimpse:

The not-so-simple story of Barack Obama’s youth
Shaped by different worlds, an outsider found ways to fit in
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/obama/chi-0703250359mar25,0,5566072,full.story

As for the Obamanites on this thread, tell your ummm... candidate, i’ve gone over his response, and he made a big mistake naming individuals whom I didn’t know worked for him (two in particular). Let’s just say he has more questions to answer.

In fairness:
http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2007/02/team_obamas_rapidfire_response.html

Oh, and tell him he should find those letters written for Rezzie and others (you know, the records he didn’t keep track of, as opposed to Hill, who locked them up), not just the ones re: the power plant, but those re: the Iraq security contract. I don’t need them, I have them.

Also tell him, my cousins are Southside, they were there back when, and are still there; They know him.

Later: Plagerized passages from O’s books

Stay tuned, gotta go to work.

This is an act of complete desperation on Hitley's part.

Obama's campaign manager, David Axelrod, was also Patrick's campaign manager and Obama and Patrick are supposedly (per the MSM) friends and talk all the time. And maybe Axelrod said, 'Hey use this, we wrote it for Patrick.'

But if you want to look at a case of 'Political Plagiarism' look no further than Pony Boy Edward's 'Hope Is On The Way' line in 2004. That was Dick Cheney's catch phrase on the stump back in 2000. Where was the outrage then????

((((( crickets )))))

I'm now going to bathe in Lye for 'defending' Obama.

Now, if he has things written in his book that are taken from other sources without attribution, he could be in serious trouble. But it that’s the case, I’d rather not make that common knowledge until he’s got enough delegates to win the nomination. It would be fun watching them try to torpedo his candidacy for “ethics problems” after he’s earned it.

Deval Patrick states that he encouraged Obama to use his words. However, Abraham Lincoln did not encourage Obama to plagiarise his words from the Gettysburg Address. Here are the closing lines of a speech Obama made on October 2, 2002, in which he strongly opposed going to war with Iraq:

” nor should we allow those... who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain.”

And here is the same language from the Gettysburg Address:
“that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain.”

The plagiarism charge is on point. This would have been better if it had been an October surprise though. Sources are listed below.

Given the empty content of what Obama has to say, plagiarism for him would be the equivalent of stealing a handful of styrofoam peanuts...of course this line is plagiarized from one of the guys at imao.us...
