John Bell Hood (June 1, 1831 – August 30, 1879) was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. Hood had a reputation for bravery and aggressiveness that sometimes bordered on recklessness, and was considered one of the best brigade and division commanders in the Confederate States Army.

The rolling, semiarid terrain is ideal for multifaceted training and testing of military units and individuals. Fort Hood is "The Army's Premier Installation to train and deploy heavy forces."

In addition to the 1st Cavalry Division and 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood is also residence for Headquarters Command III Corps, 3d Signal Brigade, 3d Air Support Operations Group, 13th Support Command (Expeditionary), 13th Finance Group, 21st CAV Brigade (Air Combat), 89th Military Police Brigade, 504th BfSB, the Dental Activity (DENTAC), the Medical Support Activity (MEDDAC), U.S. Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC), and various other units and tenant organizations.

Okay, this is too funny -- well, a little amusing anyway.

My son was watching "Home Improvement" on Nick at Nick a few minutes ago, so I sat down and watched him (gave me an excuse for an ice cream sandwich, which I keep away from the keyboard). Anyway, Jill's father passed away and the Taylors travel down to Texas to be with her family. Her father was an Army man, a colonel, stationed at Ft. Hood.

One of life's little co-incidences.

DH was stationed at Fort Hood when we were first hitched... we lived in a little apartment in Copperas Cove, deep in the heart of Texas. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I almost got run over by a tank while in driving around in blackout conditions while on war games there.

It came blasting off the trail and across the road.
