Ex-President Bush says attacks on McCain "unfair

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush urged disgruntled conservatives on Monday to rally around John McCain, calling their criticism of the Republican presidential front-runner "grossly unfair."

The father of President George W. Bush said he was annoyed by attacks within the conservative wing of the Republican Party against the Arizona senator, the all-but-certain Republican nominee to face Democrats in November election.

Many conservatives distrust McCain because of his moderate views on illegal immigration and campaign finance reform and for having originally voted against President Bush's tax cuts. Persuading them all to vote for McCain in November will be a central challenge.

"His character was forged in the crucible of war. His commitment to America is beyond any doubt," the 41st U.S. president, flanked by his wife Barbara, told a joint news conference with McCain in a Houston airport hanger.

sorry, implying someone pointing out the straw-man arguments you are rep-posting from newsmax doesn’t mean someone supports clinton’s actions.

You say the list stands, you support your reposted assertation that Clinton is the only candidate to ever receive KGB funds? Can you actually stand by that statement and not laugh?

This smear attempt by that nutcase Jerry Kiley is disgraceful on so many levels -- it's beneath contempt. It's as though they lump him in with that infamously corrupt "hero" John F'n Kerry, who was derailed by the Swiftboat Vets for the Truth (an organization I contributed to).

Since he was more than willing to run on the Democrat ticket as Kerry's VP, you could say birds of a feather stick together. And yes I'm a vet as well as well as my father and four of my brothers.

Another manufactured lie, but like all grand lies, loosely based on manipulated actual events, like the PDF file.

...According to Salter, “The idea that McCain approached Kerry is a fantasy.” Out of respect for Senator Kerry (they worked together on the POW MIA issue), McCain allowed Kerry to talk with him on three occasions (sometimes this was on the floor of the Senate and sometimes it was over coffee).

According to Weaver, the first overture in August or 2003, when Kerry scheduled a breakfast. At the time, neither Weaver, Salter, nor McCain knew what it was about. Weaver adds: “We laughed it off then,”

By the end, Salter says there was a discussion about how "empowered" McCain would be. In essence, they were offering McCain the chance to be Vice President, remain a Republican, as well as a “functional Secretary of Defense.”

According to Weaver and Salter, each time, McCain rejected the offers, and each time, the offer got sweeter.

This comment mystifies me.

You are on a Conservative site whose main purpose is to support the conservative cause and conservative candidates.

We EXPECT our candidates and our Party to be conservative.

What part of that don't you get?

Your comment causes me to question whether you are a conservative yourself.

“Comparing Arnold to McCain shows your IQ.”

Benedict Arnold was a war hero too.

If McCain wants Conservative support, he needs to earn it, not demand it. Start by firing and repudiating Juan Hernandez.

attacking the designated candidate (McCain) of the only party with conservative principles serves no good whatsoever.

It does, however, help the most liberal, openly socialist candidates (Obama/clinton) to win the presidency and cause severe and possibly irreversible damage to the United States (and oneself and family).

...because McCain is not "conservative enough" ? or by opinion not conservative at all ? does not justify the action of sitting on ones hands and letting the socialists rein

Myself, I am a patriot and nationalist out for the best interest for the USA, and our troops, before "conservative".

Conservatism is my basic paradigm of thinking, but left to rule absolutely, conservatism would gladly strip me of earnings by capital gain, outsource my job, and leave me by the side of the road for a higher profit margin, just as well as socialism would strip me and give it to the less deserving.

I put full trust in neither conservatism or socialism and prefer to defend country and family with whatever means is available, but not with idealistic tantrums that will result in damage.

So I will keep my powder dry and vote for McCain
