Then why are you running?

Why are you the likely nominee?

McCain is saying it like it is. Bottom line if he doesn’t get the base to support him Clinton or Obama take the prize and we’ll have to live with it.

If it wasn’t for MCain, and we had a decent candidate, it would have been easier.

McCain stinks.

And who put him there? We had choices, but two things happen. The voters in the primaries and those that killed Romney, Hunter, and Huck, who is just religious noise. And some posters didn't help any. The best candidate was Romney in spite of the liberal leanings, intelligent, articulate, great businessman, and given the chance he just might have worked with conservatism.

“can out-campaign them, and I can out-debate them, and I can out-perform them” but conceded that he had his work cut out for him in the months ahead.

“…We’ve got to reunite the party, and we’ve got to re-energize the party. And I’m prepared to do that. We’ve got plenty of time. But I won’t waste a day,” said McCain.”

Typical McCain: I am the only one that can do this, I can do that, I was there when we did this, I know how to build a fence because I’m from a border state, I know about war, etc., etc.

The man is full of platitudes, but when asked specifics, he starts to stammer and struggle to remember his talking points.

And did you notice he said to Stephie, “if the economy continues to struggle, we need to cut corporate tax rates because we have the second highest in the world”?

Well, that is a real bad omen, there. The corporate tax rates should be cut as a matter of principle, not dependent on the economy continuing to tank. They should never have been that high in the first place.

I swear, a lot of people on FR seem to hate on Huck, but he seems to have a vastly better comprehension of the effect of taxation on basic economics than McCain.

McCain to the base;

“Calm down and GROW UP!

(Now that will surely “reunite and re energize” us!)

Base to McCain; “STICK IT!”

(It’s a simple but honest response Juan.)

mcqueeg does not have it in him to do what it would take... he has never done it in his past and he certainly is too ego-driven to do it now. For the first time in my adult life, I see a black future no matter what happens.

He's an egomaniac. His debating skills are terrible!! He sounds old, whiney, boring & he has a very bad public speaking voice!

Only in his own mind he is a good candidate.

John spent the last ten years dividing the party, and now laments that he'll have to reunite it.

BTW John, who are you going to unite them under, Kennedy, Finegold, the Gang of Fourteen, or just the last remaining member of the Keating five?

The Arizona senator told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week that he “can out-campaign them, and I can out-debate them, and I can out-perform them” but conceded that he had his work cut out for him in the months ahead.

Suuure you can, you old goat. Of course a liberal in his 70's can re-energize the Republican party. Get ready for 9 more months of having our intelligence insulted by such comments. Reality: Dem nominee with likley be Obama. Obama is 46 years old and full of energy. McCain will look, sound and act O-L-D compared to a youthful, charismatic foe. Obama, once he becomes the nominee of his party, will have to campaign more to the center. Our candidate - the old guy - will have to campaign for voters in his own party. I think the Democrats are very happy right now - and delighted that our nominee is so beatable.

The problem for McCain and Hillary is that they are both too old to attract and excite the younger voter. The Obama supporter has, to paraphrase Timothy Leary, tuned in (to their Ipods) and turned off to the rantings of the Baby Boomer plus generation, and they are refusing to wait in the wings any longer, while the Baby Boomers take encore after encore.

Didn’t a bunch of Republicans vote for him? Isn’t that why he’s the nominee?

In case you haven't noticed it was going to be an uphill battle for any Republican this year. But I am confident we can and will win.

But party leaders have begun to rally to his side...

I thought the issue was support from the BASE, not the so-called party leadership.
