PRISTINA, Kosovo -- Kosovo's parliament declared the territory a nation on Sunday, mounting a historic bid to become an "independent and democratic state" backed by the U.S. and European allies but bitterly contested by Serbia and Russia.....

And where did the Germans get the name?
Explain how your precious Muslims rid Kosovo of its Jewish Problem, that’s the reality you can’t spin your way out of.
The Jihadist have been more brutal against the Serbs, Jews, and Roma in reality than anything that can be match in your anti-Serb fictions.
Just because I think we are being run by morons doesn’t make me guilty of anything. I’m not rooting for “Russia vs. US”, I’m rooting for “common sense vs. US”.
“The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.” -John Adams
Make no mistake. The Albanians in Kosovo see themselves as the eventual leaders of a united "Greater Albania." The vast majority of people in Albania itself want no part of that, as Albania is mostly secular today, thanks to the 40+ years of Stalinist rule, under Hoxha.
Whereas, in Kosovo under Tito, Islam was still allowed to flourish somewhat.
So ultimately what we may very well be seeing with an independent Kosovo, is a civil war in Albania, itself in the future.
I suppose, wasn't too worried about it in the immediate future, but your link is certainly something to keep on the radar.
Some powers seem to want this. My question is if they are going to be independent, why not repatriate them? The powers (don't know who is behind all this ethnic diversity) don't seem to encourage that either.
I try to be open-minded about ethnicities and getting along, but it isn't rocket science to see that a country with so many conflicting interests can't last very long, Obama's message of hope notwithstanding.
It's little things that have a way of building up to bigger things. I remember at work a Jewish lawyer complaining about the smells of oriental cooking in her apartment :-). Sounds minor enough, but things have a way of building up.
Let's be brutally honest here. Americans have never been very homogenous, let's-all-get-along, even among European immigrants. There have always been ethnic clashes rooted in ethnicity, that simmers just below the surface to this very day. And it can get serious. I'm in an area predominately settled by Germans. During WWII, I'm told that you had better not be heard speaking German on the streets. Just a for instance.
And to this day, there are southerners who really don't like us Yankees, although they tolerate us. I'm sure it's a carryover from the civil war.
No one is saying anything of the sort.
We want the Russians to protect the Serb civilians, something that the NATO commanders have steadfastly refused to do.
We do not want a single drop of American blood to be shed supporting a land grab by a a pack of illegal immigrants!
I know your point. You missed mine. I wouldn’t use a name of a Nazi division in an American forum, named after George Kastrioti Skanderbeg or not. His name went to hell the day your ancestors decided to tie it to Nazism.
Don’t worry. HAL9000 and Canuck are the only idiots on a thread of 20+ Freepers. How long before the USA is forced to cede to AZTLAN?
The point I was trying to make is that linguistically based on the toponyms, the Slavs cannot lay claim to Kosovo and the surrounding areas until the 7th century AD (okay, really around 550 AD). I’m no expert on the genetics, just the language. The real problem is that we have insufficient historical records to make absolute claims. The history of that area is almost all speculative.
Our policy toward Serbia and Kosovo is open for debate, but some of the comments here are implicitly advocating a Russian invasion of Kosovo where our troops are deployed. They are flirting with treason.
I’m not Albanian, if that is what you are implying. I’m Danish American. In the pursuit of nationalism, many omit the facts. Gjergj Kastriot was a Catholic Albanian who fought against the Ottoman invasion in the 1400’s for nearly 40 years before he died. He was from a royal Albanian family, taken by the Turks in his youth and trained in the Turkish military; hence the title “Iskander, Skenderbej”.
He returned to Albania and used the Turkish tactics against them. He is recognized as a man who helped slow and weaken the Turks on their march toward Western Europe. As Americans, we should be grateful the Turks were stopped in the Balkans with the help of the Albanians.
Given Skenderbej’s fight against the Ottomans and Islam, my screen name is more than appropriate in an American conservative forum.
Ask any of the authors if they advocate Russian troops opening fire on Americans. Not one of them will.
I'm saying that Putin should not order a Russian military invasion against U.S. troop positions in Kosovo, and you think that makes me an idiot?
How long before the USA is forced to cede to AZTLAN?
Right after we surrender to Russia, if we do things your way.
Can we then assume, canuck_conservative, that you'd happily welcome illegal alien squatters to your part of the great white north????
If "yes," please submit your address and easiest directions for getting there to Presidente Felipe Calderon.
And as Americans, we should be ashamed that we have helped Albanian Jihadists carry the Turk cause back into the Balkans.
No, that's only if congress has issued a declaration of war. If the RINO in The Oval Office didn't even ask for that when we invaded Iraq, why in the world would congress issue one for this little fracas in Kosovo?
You’re an idiot if you support an independent Muslim Kosovo. Tell me you don’t support an indy Kosovo and I’ll gladly apologize.
It's only treason if there's a declaration of war...and can you imagine the hornets nest that would be unleashed if the administration were stupid enough to try prosecuting someone for opposing their support of Islamofascist jihadis?
