The US economy and foreign policy are at risk of being overwhelmed by cosmic economic shifts driven by immense rapidly industrialising societies like India and China, an American senator has warned.

China and India are appendages of the U.S. economy.

A bit exaggerating. The United States is set to be a major economic player for many years to come. Estimates for when China is projected to surpass the United States is when the American population is approaching 1/3 that of India and China. When India is projected to catch up (are people projecting a date for when India beats the United States), the American population is projected to be larger still.

Since population is the main reason given for China and India beating out the United States, that advantage is set to weaken.

And, of course, many, many things could happen to change the economic (and other) situation(s).

China's percentage of the global population is around 1/5 now, and getting smaller and older. Still huge, but less so (China traditionally has had about 1/4 of the human race).

P.S. Of the opinion that you're onto something with other freepers not recognizing that China and India pose an economic threat (among others). They both stand a fair chance of surpassing the United States. Historically, they were the leading economic nations. They're merely retaking their place on the world stage.

The United States is a new nation in the mix, and stands to prosper in future, as the nation has in the short American history, just not necessarily as the outright, sole leader.
