I did read that. the point I was attempting to make was that they were not natural born citizens. They were not naturalized as that is something else entirely. They were in someway citizens by virtue of the fact they were in the U.S. Something akin to being born on a military base overseas. Just as John McCain.
They would, unless you can point to where the law conflicts with the Constitution. The Constitution says that the president must be a natural born citizen, without defining that term. Legislation defines natural born citizens in a manner under which McCain qualifies as one. That pretty much closes the issue.
What do you with some legal expertise think? Am I way off base or is there some possibility this could be attempted?
I don't see how.
That's just not true.
There really isn’t a valid comparison to the Founding generation though, the Constitution was written specifically to cover that unique circumstance in history.
McCain’s place of birth will not be an issue in this campaign at all.
Mark my words.
That’s exactly what I was trying to say. Sorry I was so folish in trying to draw comparisons.
McCain was foreign born. As the State department says a base is not an embassy - it is not sovereign territory.
Furthermore the US never had sovereignty over the canal zone. It was a 99 year non renewable lease and never had congressional representation. Panama was never Puerto Rico - it was more like the Green zone of Bagdhad.
BTW, there is another US base overseas, built on land leased from a foreign government. It’s called Guantanamo. The last time I checked US law doesn’t extend there.
This is more like a question than reply, hope that someone can help me with this matter. I was born in Gorgas Military hospital in April 1948 to a military soldier in service, my mom and dad where not born in U.S and I’m not too sure if my dad was a citizen at the time of my birth, but I have talked to several soldiers from the time, who have told me that they received citizen ship at the time they joined the army. I don’t know how to find out if my dad did as well, he is no longer with us, however since I was a kid he told us often I was American, since I was born in the base, at Gorgas Military Hospital. I currently live in the U.S and want to resolve my status but do not know where to start as my original birth certificate my parents had when I was a kid stated “U.S Citizen” but it was lost a few years back, when a new one was requested in 2003, it had to be requested from Washington DC. this copy was not the same copy as my parents had, this seem to be a paper filed by the base as a certificate record, but did not have the “diploma” look with seals and eagle on it like the one my parents where given. The bottom line is how can I proof that I am a “U.S citizen by statue” ? since I was born to a soldier serving this great nation on the Gorgas military hospital base. Also has anyone hear of a similar case or has some files I should read, please contact me directly at Wearetheshow@gmail.com or 561 305 4765.
Thank you for your time and look forward to reading up on this great subject.
