"No one would be able to buy cigarettes without the permit, under the idea proposed by Health England." Wanna bet? We tried the same thing with alcohol several years back, didn't work out as planned.

Not only do smokers save socialized medicine a lot of money by dying earlier than non-smokers, the taxes they pay help to subsidize health care for the longer-living non-smoking non-obese.

Rather than a License, why not UP the minimum purchase to a Carton. Then require the buyer to have a State Approved
“offical Re-usable plastic carrier” for that Carton?

Let pretend that all is good and fine.
Next step?
How long before to get it, we need to qualify to be eligible for this license.

Nanny-statism crap like this makes me wonder how long it will be until the UK implodes. Some day, some guy is going to stand before his governmental watchdogs and say,”F*** Y**!”.

How about a fee for having adultrous sex, it would help with the health care cost of STD's and other sexually transmitted disease.
A much higher fee will be required for same sex act because of the higher rate of spread of diseases including aids.
Of course, they would only do this if it is truly about health care costs.

100% of smokers want to just be left alone.
