Bombs are among the most frightening things there are. I don’t wish anything bad on the regular old folks of Mexico City.

Who would want to blow up Mexico?

and btw, who writes stuff like this:

“The cause of the explosion was unclear, though a senior police officer said it may have been an explosive device.”

Really? An explosive device caused the explosion? Huh.

Yep, explosive devices can cause explosions.

Nothing gets past this senior police official.

Well, to be fair explosions are also often caused by gas or chemicals.

I remember they had a massive sewer explosion down there some years ago. Gasoline leaking into the sewer system or something.

One man was killed in the explosion and a 22-year-old woman was injured, according to a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Given the state of Mexican infrastructure maintenance an industrial or gas line accident has to be a first guess.

Yes, they certainly are. And I particularly hate to hear about them going off anywhere in the west.

MEXICO CITY (AFP) - A huge explosion of unknown origin rocked central Mexico City Friday causing at least three injuries and damage to two vehicles, an AFP correspondent reported.

The blast occurred at 2:30 pm (2030 GMT) near the tourist area known as the Zona Rosa (Pink Zone), where dozens of ambulances, patrol cars and two helicopters have converged.

City police, who have their headquarters nearby, said they have yet no reports as to the cause of the blast.

AFP photographers said a bomb disposal squad had arrived on the scene.

The explosion also shattered windows and billboards in the vicinity

In Mexico they do not have natural gas lines into their houses and businesses like we do. Guys in trucks with large tanks of natural gas deliver to your house about once a month, dropping off the full tanks and picking up the empties. There are frequent explosions, and several years ago one of the storage areas for those tanks caught on fire and exploded in Mexico City, causing horrendous damage.
