Hate Crime Charges Against Teen Who Shot 'Feminine' Boy

(CNSNews.com) - A 14-year-old California boy is charged with a hate crime as well as attempted murder for shooting a 15-year-old boy who "sometimes wore makeup, high heels and other feminine attire," as the Associated Press reported.

The victim, Lawrence King, is brain dead, and prosecutors expect this to become a murder case very soon. They want to try the young suspect as an adult.

King was shot in the head Tuesday morning while sitting in class at a junior high school in Oxnard, Calif.

California has some of the nation's most liberal anti-discrimination, anti-bullying and "diversity" laws, including several that apply to schools and took effect on Jan. 1.

Homosexual activists have seized on Lawrence King case.

"Ten years after Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered because of his sexual orientation, a 15-year-old gay California student is brain dead after a student allegedly shot him because of his sexual orientation and gender expression," the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network said in a news release. (The group says it's main focus is ensuring safe schools for all students.)

According to GLSEN, the 14-year-old suspect was among a group of students known to bully and harass King, who reportedly told classmates he was homosexual.

"As a nation, we've had our heads in the sand for far too long," said Kevin Jennings, executive director of GLSEN. "We need to do everything we can to prevent something like this from happening again."

GLSEN says the problem of "anti-LGBT bullying" must be addressed in the nation's schools. "We must confront the fact that LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] students are much more likely to be threatened with a weapon and much more likely to feel unsafe at school than other students," Jennings said.

Judy Shepard, executive director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, said the attack on King "underscores the fact that we cannot let hate go unchecked in our schools and communities." She urged "all parents and teachers to educate their children and students about acceptance, understanding and compassion."

California leads on LGBT issues

As GLSEN itself noted, California is one of only 10 states that protect students from bullying and harassment based on sexual orientation. It is one of only five states that protect students from bullying and harassment based on gender identity/expression.

"Safe schools laws and policies are vitally important, but simply having a law is not enough," Jennings said on Thursday. "Schools need to implement staff development and training to address anti-LGBT bullying and harassment. Schools also need programs that teach young people respect and tolerance."

Too much emphasis on sex, some say

But some conservative groups say California has gone overboard when it comes to "sexual indoctrination" in the schools.

The California-based Campaign for Children and Families has just launched an appeal urging parents to removed their children from public schools.

The group argues that home schools and church schools "are the only way to rescue children from sexual indoctrination."

CCF points to two news laws, SB 777 (The Student Civil Rights Act) and AB 394 (The Safe Place to Learn Act), which took effect on January 1.

SB 777 bars any classroom instruction or school-sponsored activity that "promotes a discriminatory bias" against sexual orientation and gender. (According to CCF, the bill "functionally requires public school instructional materials and school-sponsored activities to positively portray cross-dressing, sex-change operations, homosexual 'marriages,' and all aspects of homosexuality and bisexuality, including so-called 'gay history.'")

AB 394 requires that school districts be monitored to ensure they are complying with laws regarding student safety and harraasment. (CCF said AB 394 "requires public schools to distribute controversial material to teachers, students, and parents which promotes transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality, all under the guise of 'anti-harassment' training.")

"This is the type of gender-bending education which students may have to endure unless their parents rescue them from the increasingly negative public school environment," said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, at a news conference earlier this week.

CCF has set up a RescueYourChild Web site to help parents who are concerned about the new laws.

The kid should not be tried as an adult.

Thank Heavens you're in the leftist paradise of New York because Californians voted with 62% YES (in 2000) to *require* charging 14 year-olds as adults in murders. An appeals court tossed the _requirement_ part but it is still the will of Californians that a 14 year-old murderer may be held to an adult standard and face adult justice for an adult crime.

good company with my views

??????

I believe gays have a mental issue, if it was normal , if it was natural for say men to have sex with men then nature would have let them reproduce, , nature didn’t, so there-fore it is not a natual act and more of a sexual perversion , a sexual perversion what turns them on like it would turn someone on being tied up, and hit with a whip constantly.

nothing to do with company

you sir/madam have hit the nail on the head so to speak.

Everytime I hear the word homophobic I haver to adress the person and correct them, of course the liberals try to do what they do best and name call anyone who does not have their same view.

I am past that now, it does not bother me nor will I lose any sleep over it however I will correct people when they say homophobic.

I think it is a sick disgusting perverted act, I think the people who do this posrt of acts need mental help but I am not scared of these people nor am I living in fear I think it is sick and tell people this now.

I find that putting a picture into someones mind usual makes them come around to my ivew and in the end they too cringe at the thought.

I only hope more people like you and I start to challenge these pathetic name callers and let the left, the libs and the gays that the censorship by name calling does not work no more.

again very good post by you

I'm sure it doesn't. The wounds made by such trauma can simply never quite heal, can they? I wish you peace.

In Nazi Germany and the Old Soviet Union, gays were institutionalized and today in Saudi Arabia and Iran, gays are also institutionalized.

You by saying that gays should be placed in mental institutions appear to be on the same page as the above mentioned regimes.

So, if you had the dictatorial power of Hitler, Lenin, King Abdullah or Ahmadinejad, what other groups would you place in your institutions or simply shoot in the back of the head?

Thank you so much. I have taken it on myself to work towards personal peace. I bought a few handguns and did some training. I will not be a victim ever again. God sees me through the daily trials, and I feel well protected.

I’m saying yet again they need help

the sexual perverted disgusting act of having sex with the same sex is not natural nor normal and those people what do it should I hope seek help.

I hope that they find help with their problem, of course some gays don’t think they have a problem but so do some who are addicted to drink , smoke, drugs etc.

You might find it fine that two men poking and sucking each other is normal and natural but I don’t and neither does the majority of people in this country or infact anyone I know.

If this sick perverted act was natural they would be able to have kids , they can’t again it is a sexual perverted act which turns them on much the same thing as the man who got caught having sex with an animal in yes you guessed it massachusetts sherborn to be exact, or those who like to be tied up , abused, defecated on etc .

Now of course libs and gays will try to say it’s normal and should be accepted hence the reason why they are on a crusade to brain wash our children.

If they actually called their sexual acts for what they are, then I could see there point but I cannot accept they they think they are normal because they surround themselves with like minded people.

Weird kid, for sure

How about mentally ill? Of course, we're not allowed to treat kids like him. "Repressing their true selves" would be harmful, don't you know.

Unless someone decides to try the kid as an adult we'll never hear the outcome.

The local DA in Ventura will move to try him as an adult.

couldn’t have said it better

the libs tell us that we should ignore peoples sexual preference yet they have parades and prance around on their tip toes letting everyone know they have a sexual sickness.

they the libs tell us that no one should be judged on the color of their skin yet they have a racist program in place called affirmative action

these hate laws should be stopped and we should all be treated as equals.

so the libs think a black person is more valuable, a man who likes to have sex with another man is more valuable than a man who has a wife and does sex naturally.

then they tell us that we are all the same

I believe we are so therefore get rid of this hate crime law, get rid of affirmative action

It's "intimidating" only for the closet cases. For most people it's not a big deal given that seeing a male in a dress neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

I see. So if you find the idea of a mentally ill young man dressing like a woman and wearing grotesque female cosmetics that would shame a prostitute in any way wrong, perverse, or disgusting, you're a "closet case"?

You've drunk too much of the GLBTQYADDAYADDA kool aide, my friend.

Call me a "degenerate" if you want but this kid is a sick psychopath. I hope he spends the rest of his short, miserable life behind bars.

Agreed. There are no good guys in this story.

uh, the victim had no family...he was living in a shelter.

since the school district clammed up immediately, and the only words we have are those of the fellow students that have been played in the press, who all said the victim “was a freak, wore makeup and dresses” and was continuously seeking a sexual relationship from the suspect, and that the school district did nothing with numerous complaints about the victim......you can draw your own conclusions....

Do you get a jury trial if you are a juvenile tried as an adult?

"Murder is hateful, whatever the reason. People who wear the opposite sex's clothing should not have special rights."

Exactly. And what the students need is not intructions on how to accept and affirm sexual perversion, but some straight talk about the crime of murder, and swift, severe, and certain application of the California criminal code.

If only the consequences were "swift, severe, and certain"!

So, the 14 year old, was being sexually harassed by the 15 year old?

And the 15 year old was in a shelter?

That is just a tragedy waiting to happen. I wonder what the family of the 14 year old had told him to do about all of the harassment? The school was doing NOTHING from what has been said. Was he given no effective tools at all? And it sounds like the 15 year old has no family, or a severely messed up family. I’m sure the “social workers” saw nothing wrong with his “behavior.” It sounds like to me a straight saying NO is not allowed.

I was hammering in on the word "intimidate" - I am genuinely curious about people who are frightened of 15 year old boy in a dress. As for the substance of the boy-in-a-dress issue, I find myself in a big heap of I-don't-really-care-that-much. It's a big world and there's much more to be upset and disgusted about than the sartorial choices of a teenager. I think the people who are frothing at mouth over it are working out their own psychological issues.

Good point. I wouldn't use the word "intimidated"--a better term would be "revolted by". That's exactly how I felt when a guy I knew in high school started declaring to everyone who would listen that he was a homo. I felt his behavior was revolting and pathetic and he himself an object of pity.

Intimidated? Not hardly.
