One of Brian McNamee's lawyers predicted that Roger Clemens will be pardoned by President Bush, saying some Republicans treated his client harshly because of the pitcher's friendship with the Bush family.
Lawyer Richard Emery made the claims Thursday, a day after a congressional hearing broke down along party lines. Many Democrats were skeptical of Clemens' denials that he used performance-enhancing drugs and Republicans questioned the character of McNamee, the personal trainer who made the accusations against the seven-time Cy Young Award winner.
"It would be the easiest thing in the world for George W. Bush given the corrupt proclivities of his administration to say Roger Clemens is an American hero, Roger Clemens helped children," Emery said in a telephone interview. "It's my belief they have some reason to believe they can get a pardon."
During Wednesday's session before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Clemens repeated his denials under oath, which could lead to criminal charges if federal prosecutors conclude he made false statements or obstructed Congress.
"I'm not aware of Mr. Clemens having been charged with anything," White House deputy press secretary Tony Fratto said after being told of Emery's remarks.
Emery cited Bush's decision last year to commute the 2 1/2-year prison sentence of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, his vice president's former top aide. Libby was convicted in the case of the leaked identity of a CIA operative.

Great point!
Roger is on the Martha Track to Federal Prison.
I’d prefer to fire the lot of them, reinstate the constitution and be done with American Socialism, but I aint gonna get that wish either.
Nope, pardons are unconditional. I’ll bet one could even be written to cover future events.
Birds of a feather... McNamee, however, admits he dealt steroids, but Clemens is lying his ass off and not doing a good job at it. Witness tampering too! I don't see what doubt there is that Clemens deserves any benefit of. Pettitte says that Clemens told him he was using HGH in 1999. Everybody else McNamee said used steroids or HGH has fessed up, Pettite, Chuck Knoblauch, even Roger Clemens' wife.
We're to believe that Roger Clemens' wife used performance-enhancing drugs, but not Roger Clemens?
That's right ... do exactly what we criticize our political opponents for doing ... yeah, that's the ticket. Statements like this explain to me exactly why some Republicans accuse other Republicans of not having principles, and why the once conservative party is now going left in great haste.
I am sure it is a tough Valentines Day at the Clemens' house.
1. He may not be lying.
2. Pure-D hubris?
What's your point?
“The gauze and needles are like that blue dress.”
Who keeps soiled bule dresses and used gauze and needles?
Sounds like McNamee was trying to blackmail Clemens. FYI I hate baseball.
Draw people into a story. Get them fired up about guilt, innocence, testimony, evidence. Once this happens, they’ll pay no attention to the truly more insidious thing...the hearings, big government intrusion, Big-Nanny. The crooks and cretins win...the sheeple lose. Pathetic.
I doubt it's that easy. I'd think that drug residue added after the fact to a blood stain on gauze is very different in appearance from the real thing.
I know Al Gore won an Oscar, an Emmy and the Nobel Peace Prize but can you tell me when Gore was in good enough condition to win a Cy Young?
Then, what kind of man is it that allows his wife to be injected with HGH and then rats his wife out to Congress?
OMG!!! Are you saying AlGore is on roids and HGH!! That might explain his roid rage over global warmongering.
Yep, and not just his wife: his mother, his agents, his former team doctor, and his former teammate and friend Andy Pettite!
Up until yesterday I though that Barry Bonds was the biggest a-hole in baseball, but Clemens has managed to lap him after yesterday's disgusting performance. Even if he never gets indicted and convicted, this lowlife will never get into the Hall of Fame now in a million years.
Would have been a lot simpler just to tell the truth, like all the other players did. Clemens instead chose to lie, and if he reaps justice he'll be swatted with a perjury conviction.
I’m trying to care about any aspect of this, and failing miserably.
Except the still, small voice that says, “Why the HELL is Congress screwing around wasting time and my money with this?”
Man has not been charged with thing one. And he wont be.”
Pardoned from what?
The only thing I saw yesterday was common sense on the side of the Republicans and total democrat BS on the other side.
Someone should put Henry Waxman out of his misery. He is always whining about something. Maxine Waters must be his mother....
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Touche’!
