Clemens Autograph Seekers May Have Broken Federal Law
The New York Times ^ | 02/13/2008 | Duff Wilson

Posted on 02/13/2008 3:26:51 PM PST by pjsbro

Any members of the House oversight committee or their staff who asked Roger Clemens for an autograph during his tour of the Capitol over the past week might have violated a federal law against soliciting things of value from people with interests before the committee, several lawyers with expertise in Congressional ethics laws said.

This was the most pathetic waste of time I have ever seen coming from our elected losers.

I agree, but I it seemed to me the Repubs were defending Clemens, and the Dems defending McNamee

I can hear it now: “So, did you or did you not ask for an autograph from Roger Clemens?”

Now there is an oxymoron of the highest order.

Actually, I would think that any Committee staffers who got an autograph from Clemens would want him to get into the Hall of Fame, which would increase the value of their autograph, and therefore they would at least subliminally want Clemens to be innocent.

I agree. I SO don’t care if people use drugs, especially steroids, which, if used by adult males in reasonable amounts are fairly harmless.

All the crap about “roid rage” is, well, crap promulgated by liberals who think all things male are evil, so testosterone must be the root of all evil.

I presume liberals like turning the screws to jocks (to get back for wedgies in High School), and nanny-staters like this because, well, they are nanny-staters.

Amen. I guess all of the nations concerns have been settled by our astute leaders, so that now this is all they to ponder.

What a bunch of putzes...

...pathetic waste of time...

Started and kept alive by some of the least trustworthy people around, Mitchel, Waxman, McNamee, etc.

Heck, he should have signed autographs on the Capitol steps after. And told the news cameras to be there too! That’s what Rush would do with those people.

If they let senators and reps off for dueling dork-swords and a host of obscene antics still not allowed in R rated movies why on earth would we assume that our Digressional leaders would give a rats a$$ about breaking an ethics misdemeanor?

I'm just sayin'

This whole process was BS. Clemens is a liar (IMHO)and McNamee is a liar and a chicken-$hit(also MHO) little coward. This should be addressed by the league and not by a circus in DC. That being said, It looks like McNamees lies caught up to him so he had to come clean. At least Pettit and Knoblock were men enough to face the music and tell the truth. There are to many people that have to be lying for Roger’s account to be truthful.
It was ironic that at one point he claimed that a former president had no trouble locating him while he was in a hunting blind. Right after that he started pointing his finger at people like the slick-meister did. He looked pathetic and guilty and now I have lost respect for whom was once my baseball hero. This is a sad day. If he did it, he should have been man enough to just admit it. My seven year old son can tell a whopper but I hope he can learn a lesson from Andy Pettit and Chuck Knoblock instead of Clemens.
