The Berkeley City Council attempted to make nice with U.S. Marines recruiters early today by taking back a letter it planned to send calling the Corps 'uninvited and unwelcome intruders' in the city.

This Marine Dad is disappointed, but not surprised.

OOO-rah for the Pro-Marine forces that showed up to protest.

Semper Fi Part II
Posted by: John Campbell at 12:30 PM

I have received many comments and emails in response to the Semper Fi Act that I introduced into the House of Representatives last week. I feel that it is necessary to give you an update on what has happened since my posting last week.

The nation has literally erupted in protest in reaction to the decision from the Berkeley City Council telling the Marines that their recruiting office is not welcome in their city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as “uninvited and unwelcome intruders”.

Last night, the City Council met once again and decided to rescind the letter to the Marine Corps. This is an ineffectual attempt at appeasing the situation and I have no intention of rescinding the Semper Fi Act (H.R. 5222). To say that the Marines are welcome but they strongly object to the recruitment of young people into the Marine Corps is ridiculous. It’s like saying I love hamburgers but strongly oppose them if they are cooked and made out of meat. Furthermore, according to press accounts, the radical anti-war group Code Pink will still be granted use of the parking space in front of the recruiting office once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week.

Even with this toothless change, the Berkeley City Council continues to indicate that they have a disdain for and lack of appreciation for the Marine Corps, and the service they provide to the country.

Don’t be disappointed. I will not be doing any more business with companies in Berkeley.

I’m just like that.

Isn't that a bit like calling your wife a c***, only to "take it back" later and expect all is forgiven?

Get the truckers to boycott Berkley and you’ll see a different attitude.

This is only a stall until they figure out a way to do it better without the attention and outrage focused on them. I wish I did business with the area so I could stop. None the less, I do believe in the Golden Rule, karma and and what goes around comes around. These people have some nasty shiite coming back at them.

"We should feel safe on our own school grounds," Wynkoop said. "But when (the Marines) come around, that's not the environment we get."
This totally asinine comment came from a 14 year old Berkley high school student and clearly demonstrates the results of her brainwashing.
Could her comment be further from the truth? Unbelievable. Makes me want to wash her mouth out with soap.

For the Honorable Marines to actually expect an apology would diminish their superior collective character. Far better for the Marines to simply ignore them, for the Marines know that character counts.

Since the opposing side has no concept of what "character" truly means, any apology, whether insincere or forced, has no value attached to it. They are small-minded creatures motivated purely by emotional instincts. They like to see themselves as enlightened when in reality, they know very little.

Cut the funding anyway.. god these people just do not understand...

Then we can send them a letter.. the city is unappreciated and unwanted for their insane policies.. and move the federally funded lab work to other research areas across the country.

The petition

We, the undersigned condemn the Berkeley City Council’s treasonous attack on US Marine Recruiters stationed in their city. We ask that Congress cut off funds from any and all municipal entity within the confines of the city of Berkeley, California, until such time as the city council withdraws it’s action.

The City Council has voted to tell the Marines their downtown recruiting station is not welcome and “if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests.”

The measure passed last week by a vote of 8-1.

The council also voted to explore enforcing a city anti-discrimination law, focusing on the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

In a separate item, the council voted, also 8-1, to give the Marxist protest group Code Pink a parking space in front of the recruiting office once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week.

Maybe the next Mohammed Atta will visit their neighborhood.

I wonder if they'd change their tune.

There must be consequences for their actions. If not they will just keep this up. Hit them in the pocket book. I like what one poster said about truckers boycotting the city.
