Coming off a sweep in the Potomac Primaries, John McCains campaign has a message for Mike Huckabee: Its over.
The campaign released a memo after McCain won Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia Tuesday night saying the victories make it mathematically impossible for Governor Huckabee to secure the Republican nomination for president.

It is not entirely about whether Huckabee can win. It is about whether republicans in the remaining states want McCain as their nominee. They haven’t even voted yet. Until McCain reaches the winning number, their votes should still count. Many voters in those states want another option, they want Huckabee or anyone other than McCain. See Kansas. So just slow up and wait until your candidate actually wins enough support from real GOP voters in the remaining states.
Don’t forget Mississippi. Conservatives will always vote by larger numbers against McCain. I’m voting against March 4th, or are the GOP shutting the polls down?
and, Huckie, you're doing a heck of a job.
True, but we see how folks big and little are now “closing ranks”. Pathetic.
Those voters will still get to throw away their votes. Causing a brokered convention would be a disaster. Huckabee is playing for the second spot.
Do you believe this is in the best interest of our country?
And McCain is doing whats best for McCain and not for the country. If McCain were the great american he claims to be he'd realize he's unelectable and polarizing in his own party. Time for McCain to do something for the country and stand down.
Causing a brokered convention would not be a disaster. It might reveal the depth of the divide within the party, but it won’t itself create a disaster. In fact it might actually help. It would allow the people to feel more like they chose the candidate themselves, rather than having someone forced on them. If McCain stll emerges as the winner then you have time to sell him to those who distrust him. Making them feel like their vote didn’t even count won’t help bring unity or avoid disaster. It reminds me of that person who said rape victims should just look at the situation and if the rape is inevitable, they should lean back and enjoy it. I DON’T THINK SO!
It is actually good for McCain if Huck stays in the race as Obama Hussein and Hildlibeast will suck up ever last media moment.
I si what I si, and I know what I si, and it’s over for McCain. Obama will beat him with his air sandwich in a landslide.
To the House I say, work for a conservative house, si.
I would never never vote for McCain, Rudy, or Romney in a primary....perhaps in a general election as the lesser of two evils but never in a primary.
Loser and FOOL.
Huckabee would not make a good VP, let alone a good President. McCain/Thompson ‘08.
Might want to think that through a bit. Things done out of 'sheer spite' generally result in more pain for the person doing it.
Its not over till McLaim throws an election and nobody shows up...
Huckabee certainly has a right to continue running. And I dont think hes wrong to do so if thats what he wants to do.
But in point of fact, it IS over.
Good post. BUT, if it is over, why does McCain feel that he needs to point it out?
As George Burns would famously say at the end of his TV show, “Say goodnight, Gracie.”
What a freaking num nut! With friends like you, who needs eneemies? GROW UP YOU LITTLE BABY!
