Those voters will still get to throw away their votes. Causing a brokered convention would be a disaster. Huckabee is playing for the second spot.

Causing a brokered convention would not be a disaster. It might reveal the depth of the divide within the party, but it won’t itself create a disaster. In fact it might actually help. It would allow the people to feel more like they chose the candidate themselves, rather than having someone forced on them. If McCain stll emerges as the winner then you have time to sell him to those who distrust him. Making them feel like their vote didn’t even count won’t help bring unity or avoid disaster. It reminds me of that person who said rape victims should just look at the situation and if the rape is inevitable, they should lean back and enjoy it. I DON’T THINK SO!

Huckabee has two sensible reasons for staying in the race - the good of the party (assuming that is McCain) notwithstanding. (1) He gets to build an organization in the states with upcoming primaries for 2012/2016. (2) If for some reason McCain is unable to run between now and November, Huckabee could be holding all the chits.
