His name should do it. Barack Hussein Obama.

You'd think so. When I said the same thing on this forum someone replied that it sounded shallow and bigoted.

For liberal 'world citizens,' no. They'd vote for him if for no other reason than to show the rest of the world how 'tolerant' they are.

.

"I voted for the first Black President! See how proud I am of myself?"

"But what's his platform? What's he plan to do for America?"

"I dunno, something about 'change' I guess. But he's Blaaaack! The first one!"

OK, in self defense, I’m leaving tomorrow to become the King of Madagascar. Lay it on me, Obama....$$$.

But first, I guess I better find Madagascar on a map.

Obama has a cult following

Kinda like the Jimmy Carter phenomenon of a generation ago.

It’s not an Appropriations bill - there’s no $. Period.

At best, it’s an effort to direct State Dept to coordinate (across the interagency) & strategize how to leverage it current programs that may relate (or be ‘rationalizable’ as relating) to poverty reduction. One could characterize it, at worse, as an unfunded mandate.

Neither the [http://www.thomas.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:S.2433:]full text House or Senate version of the bill supports that assertion (to put it diplomatically). And again, it’s not an appropriations bill.

The bill’s language direct the US to develop a strategy to support “Continued investment in existing United States initiatives related to international poverty reduction, such as the United States Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Act of 2003, the Millennium Challenge Act of 2003, the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative, and trade preference programs for developing countries, such as the African Growth and Opportunity Act” and to submit a report to Congress NLT 1 year after Act becomes law on the strategy and the effectiveness of the programs listed above toward reducing poverty.

There does not appear to be a Presidential Budget Request (PBR) or a Congressional Addition (i.e., an “earmark”) appropriation connected to it. The FY09 PBR was recently submitted to Congress; the Executive agencies are preparing briefings for Congressional staffers.

I can ‘guestimate’ from where the “$845B” figure was generated ... it’s a red herring (at a most generous characterization).

Folks, this ought to make your head spin.

the proposal says the money will go to the U.N. and let the U.N. the payout...

Also, this little tidbit..

In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that declaration commits nations to banning "small arms and light weapons" and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

This is f'ed up. This makes me sick to my stomach.

I going to take over a small Pacific Island, and incorporate it as a third world country. I can hardly wait to get part of that annual Obama 90 billion.I suppose I will have to pay some Dem kick backs to bagman Jefferson so he can stash it with his broccoli in his freezer. Then I will go straight to the China Arms market, buy me a Korean nuke, and threaten every oil tanker that comes by, after investing in oil futures. I figure to double my money in 6 months, and if the populace of peasants gets out of hand, I will bring in Sharia law and a bunch of Mullahs to keep them straight.

Yep, I'll have it made.LOL

I picked PDL last week, because a neighbor of mine wanted to use it as a devotional. In an attempt to “be all things to all people”, I agreed against my better judgement.

Your source is right in pointing towards the similarities between Warren's use of Scripture in PDL and the methodology employed by non-Christian cults. PDL is not altogether bad; there are some nuggets of Biblical truth in there. This is, of course, what makes it worse than non-Christian cults--in at least one respect: truth and error are mingled so that the believer who lacks discernment may lose focus. If we were talking about something bizarre and manifestly un-Biblical, like Hubbard's "Dianetics or Moon's "Divine Principles," that would be a different story.

After reading PDL, I asked myself, "Just what is 'The Purpose?'"

At the end of s2433 is this definition:

(4) MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS- The term `Millennium Development Goals' means the goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, General Assembly Resolution 55/2 (2000).

this is the link for the this resolution: http://www.un.org/millennium/declaration/ares552e.pdf

For a newbie who only posted to this thread, you sure seem to be trying to shut off the alarm. hmmmmmmm.

BTT

I was hearing about this bill getting some movement

This bill commits the United States to the UN's Millennium Project and the Millennium Development Goals

And what is buried in these goals that Obama wants to commit us to? In Chapter 13 we have :

Development practitioners today see little hope for the developed world to follow through on the Millennium Development Goals promise when it has not followed through on assistance promises before, such as the long-standing target for 0.7 percent of GNP for official development assistance.
0.7 % of the 2007 US GDP of $14.5 TRILLION is a $101 BILLION tax on the US, payable to the United Nations

The best definition of Foreign Aid that I ever read was, “Foreign Aid is the slickest scheme ever developed to take money from the poor people of one country and to give it to the rich people in another.”
