Just When It Couldn't Look Worse, Republicans Face 'Political Exodus'
IBD ^ | February 12, 2008 | Sean Higgins

When asked about the 29 Republican-held seats that will go up for grabs this fall, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Cole, R-Okla., gently corrected this reporter.

"As of today," Cole said at a breakfast briefing for reporters. He didn't say that further retirements are expected, but he wasn't exactly ruling them out, either.

Cole then recalled how one unnamed GOP leader recently said to him: "Cole, you and I better get out of here before all of the good jobs are gone."

It was a joke. Sort of.

One election cycle as the minority party and Republicans are stampeding to the exits. While at least five of them are trying for higher offices, most are opting to simply quit. They are one retirement away from the record number.

Cole put the best face on the situation Tuesday, telling reporters he did not take the job to preside over the "dismantling" of the party. There's no reason why the GOP can't beat the odds this fall, he said.

"The biggest problem I have, and the Republican Party has, is morale," Cole said. "We went through the worst defeat since Watergate (in 2006), and yet there are still 10 more (GOP House) seats than Ronald Reagan had on his best day."

On Monday, Rep. John Shadegg, R-Ariz., a contender for GOP leader in 2006, became the latest Republican to drop out. By contrast, the Democrats have a mere five open seats going into the fall election

How long do you suppose this country will remain independent once the economy has collapsed from the weight of the Mexicans+ and the global warming leg-irons? McCain promises us that. The Clintons promise us that. Hussein promises us that.

“Amnesty will turn the U.S.A. into a third world country for our children and grandchildren.”

Actually I would disagree. I don’t think thing will be that good for us.

Except for the United States it’s been rather common for conquering invaders to engage in all manner of human rights abuses, including the systematic rape of the women in conquered countries. Even today we see rape and sexual brutalization of women used as a tool to humiliate the men who survive a losing conflict.

When we fall I strongly believe that the conquering masses won’t just confiscate our property. I think that would be the “good day.” The other days will be something else.

the democrat primary reminds me of an episode of American Idol (oooh that Obama he is such a great speaker and soooo optimistic for change !)

the republican primary reminds me of a remake of the movie Night of the Living Dead.....(Zombies dragging feet to the polls in darkness and dread)

I wasn’t going to vote. At all. Then I realized how important this election is. Therefore I will show up and vote for conservatives up and down the ballot. Since there is no conservative running for POTUS, I shall leave that “choice” blank.

NY is the only state - yet- that I know of where you can switch to the Conservative party, but I’m not well-versed in this.

Waterboading helps ACLU’s enemies and compromises its warfighting tactics and its soldiers in the field.Of course, ACLU opposes waterboarding.

Reagan regretted signing the Simpson-Mazzoli Act. He publicly made that statement once.

The reason he signed the bill: the democrats in Congress promised to secure the border, and then broke the agreement after the bill was signed.

George H. Bush made a similar mistake; he agreed to raise taxes, and the democrats in Congress agreed to cut spending. The democrats didn’t uphold their end of the bargain, and then, in the 1992 presidential campaign, the dems accused Bush of lying in 1988 when he said, “Read my lips.....no new taxes.”

Our founding fathers didn’t give up EVERYTHING they had so that a mere 200 years later we could just sit here and whine about not getting what we want. I for one will NOT go quietly into the night without casting my vote - it is still our freedom and is we forego it now, we may not have it in 4-8 more years. I’m praying for the 2nd highest job - let’s all flood McCain’s e-mails, phones, faxes with strong candidates for the VP job, the Homeland Security job, etc. He needs to hear our voices and maybe with alot of prayer some good will come. But I do know that complaining and whining does nothing (see 2006).

we CAN win the presidency

With four dems on the ballot in November? How do we do that? Run third party?

Actually, with both parties in such horrible shape, a third-party run seems pretty darned attractive.

Yep! I agree again. McCain is against water-boarding and the ACLU gave him kudos!

Bill and Hillary finally finally get theirs and who gives it to them - not a conservative conqueror, but some empty vessel who perfected their evil method.

I can’t even talk about it at home because everyone here says: Let me enjoy Hillary’s pain, don’t ruin it with reality!

What a mess. I’m just going to laugh and laugh and have a glass of wine, LOL.

No, the Constitution Party, which I predict will get a lot bigger here in Montana.

according to his speeches, Obama will:

rebuild new orleans with all new mansions for the poor

end world poverty, everyone will be rich

"win" the war and redeploy the troops to Africa to build cities, change baby diapers and spoon feed the masses

bring about world peace by holding hands and making freinds with all the "evil leaders"

life with Obama will be better than anyones wildest dreams

(according to his speeches)

however according to McCain's speeches it will be business as usual.

" Many of us are still in shock from the one, two punch of our own party leadership trying to cram that amnesty bill down our throats."

And the sad irony is, the SOB that wrote the bill is the very one they are trying to cram down our throats now!

Yep, and they deliver their transparent, pandering lies, right to our faces. They don’t even care if we believe them as long as we think they have us over a barrel.

I wonder if anyone would. I have my doubts, and I suspect that may be the only way we will ever be a republic again.

For the first time, I've found solace in getting old. I don't want to see what is going to happen.

Surreal, isn’t it??? McCain’s first act as Pres would be amnesty. He wouldn’t even back down when we crashed the Capitol switchboard against his McCain/Kennedy amnesty. He still voted for his bill! He could care less what Americans think, let alone conservatives.
