Democratic voters don't want their elders to be deciders
Denver Post ^ | 02/11/2008 | David Harsanyi

Vicious personal attacks. Tears. Hope. Change. All of it has transformed the normally insipid process of presidential politics into a bearable spectacle.

And nothing adds drama like a close race. So the entertainment value will only ratchet up if, as many suggest, superdelegates ultimately decide the Democratic Party's nominee for president.

What is a superdelegate? Well, a bunch of unpledged elected officials and party operatives in the Democratic Party who possess far more power than you or I. Folks like governors, senators, mayors and party chairpersons.

The idea of having superdelegates is to create party unity at the convention by buffering delegate margins. It also gives party leadership a disproportionate sway in the final choice, just in case the mob goes off the rails and picks Dennis Kucinich to lead them.

The idea of superdelegates has left some activists in the Democratic Party dyspeptic. The thought of an infinitesimal group holding 19 percent of the party's power flies in the pious face of all that is "democratic." But superdelegates aren't necessarily as appalling as you may think. Especially if they do their job right.

At least one Superdelegate is just 21 years old.

Looks like, now at least, Obama is going into the convention with the most delegates. Let’s hope so.

Because you know that the Clintons will pull every dirty trick possible in order to get the nomination, and this is likely to piss off a whole bunch of these youngsters (who don’t bother to vote anyway).

So, how about some stealth freeper protesting? Go out as Obama supporters who are upset that the Clintons stole the nomination, stir up some crap?

If Obama keeps on racking up crushing margins in the primaries he wins, the super delegates will probably go with him too. They are after all politicians who are very adept at figuring out the current wind direction and intensity.

It must hurt to have a brain and not know how to use it. A McCain presidency will ruin the republican party. It will finally finish us off and turn us into a complete Democrat lite party, with no conservatives ever able to win nomination again. This is what Rush is talking about. The country as a whole will suffer more in the long run with McCain at the helm than with Hillery or Obama in the WH. McCain is the same as the democrats he is running against and there lies the danger.

Direct Democracies don't work very well. A representative democracy is in general a better solution. However, better doesn't mean perfect.

In general we elect representatives with the intention that they will have more time and better information from which to make good decisions. If we don't like the decisions they make we can then vote them out. However, what this does is reduce the influence of impulsive mobs that are easily swayed by emotion rather than facts.

It's a good idea, as long as we select our representatives carefully. Unfortunately, we often don't. This is true about the Democratic Party officials, the Republican Party officials, and our elected public officials.

Few people pay much attention to who runs for these positions. They tend to be political insiders that have a somewhat moderating effect.

In the case of the Democrats that means they prevent the party from electing someone like Kookcinich.

In the case of the Republican Party they not only keep us from electing someone like Ron Paul, they keep us from electing someone that would try and significantly weaken the power of the government, because that would weaken the power of political insiders such as themselves.

These more liberal political insiders lives revolve around the government. It is the government from which they get their power. They don't want to shrink it's influence.

They are actively working to pull the Republican Party to the left. It's hard to unseat them from within the Republican Party, because they have the connections and the support of the party leadership. Even if we rise up against one of them, they will make sure that that person gets replaced with another that will advance their agenda. True conservatives simply aren't organized enough to take them on. We just want the government to do the things it is constitutionally authorized to do, do them well, and otherwise leave us alone.

Please remember that Rush is an entertainer.
Trust me he will set his attacks on Osama Obama real soon.
The guy is farther left than Hillary has ever gone.
Osama plans to shut up Talk Radio with the so called fairness doctrine .
If these evil sleaze ball will go after SEALED divorce papers that both spouses fought to keep sealed .
He used a fellow Mayor Daley hack judge, the guy is pure evil and will do anything for power!

The liberals who whine about the Electoral College are going to freak out when the supers hand the nomination to Hillary.

This is getting fun to watch!

I'm far more concerned about the country than the party.

Please make the case for your assertion:

The country as a whole will suffer more in the long run with McCain at the helm than with Hillery or Obama in the WH.

What of campaign donors? What are they to think...many of them are giving money to the campaign they believe will be most successful; from the size of the money raised, that person has been Obama. Now, these super delegates come along and, wham! Override all the candidate has done.

Where are the cries of "disenfranchisement" when it comes to nominating your candidate?
