The recent emergence of Chelsea Clinton as a voice for her mother's campaign has resulted in a chorus of "poor Chelsea" from various sources. Ms. Clinton is still deeply wary of the media, and the sentiment may be valid; her life has been dominated by attention she never chose to engender. But it's got a nefarious underside, as exhibited by the suspension Friday of David Shuster, a commentator for Hardball who got put in the naughty chair for asking on the air whether Clinton had "pimped out" her daughter. Pimping is a common enough euphemism in modern parlance, but one which an indignant Hillary Clinton has managed to turn into a carnival of pity and remonstrations.
I am not unfamiliar with said carnival. Back in 1997, as a surly student journalist at U.C. Berkeley, I made a couple of comments about the use of Chelsea as a prop for controversy-free photo ops when her parents dropped her off for her first semester of college at Stanford. Scraping for something to say about the upcoming football game between Cal and Stanford, I criticized my school's rival for pouring resources into the circus surrounding Chelsea's arrival, suggesting that they were more concerned with maintaining a pristine, photogenic student body than educating as large and diverse a population as possible. I then encouraged Berkeley students to share our less refined ways by trashing the campus, including Ms. Clinton. Sure, my line "show your spirit on Chelsea's bloodied carcass" was over the top and poorly chosen. And then the AP wire snipped my column's line, "Chelsea Clinton represents the Stanford ethos of establishment worship which must be subverted and destroyed," into "Chelsea Clinton must be destroyed." (The column is no longer available online.)
The comments made their way to Mrs. Clinton,

Hey, she goes out, gets on stage stumping for her mother, then she should answer questions. Otherwise, it’s just Mom and Dad pimping her out.
Why? Treating her like a serious person simply increases the likelihood that she will become another liberal political icon.
I dont like going after the offspring of canditates. Unless they are going to be in the goverment of the parent.
Let them be.....
If she's out there stumping for mommy dearest, she's fair game.
What, Guy hasn't met with some tragic accident???
If they are young, e.g. college age or younger, or if they are older but NOT stumping in public for their parent, I agree. But Chelsea is 27 years old and has chosen to publicly campaign for her mother. She is fair game for everything any other person campaigning for a candidate gets.
The word “pimping” is inappropriate in Chelsea Clinton’s case. As a Hedge Fund Manager she is of course a “Bookie”.
Tell me this country isn't in need of a wakeup call.
I agree. Plus, Chelsea shouldn't be the issue.
How about Keith Olbermann and his talk of “pimping out” Gen. Petraeus(sp?)? Was that bad? Or it doesn’t matter?
Actually, I don’t know what the big deal is. When you say SOMEONE A is “pimping out” someone B, isn’t it REALLY a slam against Someone A?
So I don’t know why this isn’t fair game at all!
If she can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. She is an adult. She chose to get into the fray. If you can dish it out but not take it, then you’re in the wrong arena, Chelsea.......
If the offspring inject themselves into politics by running for something or by campaigning for someone else who is running for office or if they publicly support positions about which there is some controversy then they have taken the shields off and are fair to be criticized. One’s membership in a Democrat-protected group does not make one immune though the Democrats and the MSM would like us to accept that they are immune. The planted assumption here is that if you disapprove of Chelsea’s publicly urging views on public issues then you are attacking her personally in a most vile and misogynistic and child-hating manner. I.e. you disapprove of socialism therefore you hate Chelsea because she is a woman and a little girl.
That is the story not presently being examined in the msm. It is Stalinist and clearly demonstrates how manipulating and controlling the left is. Does anyone think had sides been reversed, PMSNBC would have suspended the commentator. After all, olberdope made similar comments with respect to Petraus and nothing has been made of it.
The daughter is out there on the campaign trail, engaged in activities, and therefore is subject to scrutiny....
Okay, Hillary.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1...... CRY!
Come on now, lets see thoose tears flow.
A euphemism is a term used to make something sound more benign. Webster: “the substitution of an agreeable or inoffensive expression for one that may offend or suggest something unpleasant.”
What does that say about campaigning for Hillary?
Exactly! You can’t get out there & run your mouth & then think you’re immune from criticism. I’m tired of the “child” crap. She is almost THIRTY & people are acting like she’s 12. She’s an adult. She placed herself in the spotlight. If she can’t handle it she should remove herself from it.
But please, no pictures!
